UREY SIXTH GRADE BASKETBALL TEAM BWF I "mnAl MFV|H| fl IHL*^ sB sfli }/ PIB X,W ■ 'fl| w Rs i fll f fl ■HIWW^S H 4 IIIW lir • I Members of the 6th grade basketball team at Urey Middle School are, from left to right, sitting: Dan Wielosinski, Rusty Peterson and Greg Vitali. Kneeling: Bruce Brown, Aaron Casteel, Steven Chase, Jason Dipert and T. J. Hurford. Standing: Russel Burch, Rick Maher, Jay Cotton, Chris Coffey, Andy Holderread, Brian Perry and coach John Huffman.

The 6th Grade boys basketball team was a pleasant surprise this year. Some cold shooting and though luck put us in the hole early as we lost four of our first five games but knew we were a better team than that. The boys never lost faith in the team and fought back "one game at a time" to win the last seven games in a row! The highlights of the season were: defeating LaVille in their last game of what had been an undefeated season (8-0) at that point; winning both tournaments; winning seven in a row; and learning to believe in ourselves while facing adversity. The team was led in scoring by Aaron Casteel, Brian Perry, Bruce Brown and Greg Vitali. Coach Huffman and our school are proud of all the boys on the team as well as our cheerleaders and fans. Congratulations boys! UREY 6TH GRADE WINS The 6th grade boys basketbail team won their sixth game in a row last night, beating North Liberty 32-14. The 6th graders improved their record to 7-4 for the season with one more game to play. All 15 players contributed to the victory last night. Scoring for Urey was: Jimmy Vail 2. Russel Burch 2, Chris Coffey 2, Brian Perry 3, Bruce Brown 5, Greg Vitali 8. and Aaron Casteel 10. 6TH GRADE ENDS WITH WIN The Urey 6th grade finished their exciting season on the upbeat at Triton. After a hard fought battle Triton scored a basket at the buzzer to send the game into overtime at 19-19. But Aaron Casteel scored four points in the overtime to help the Falcons pull away to a 27-20 victory. Andy Holderread played his best game of the year defensively according to coach Huffman. The win was the seventh in a row for Uery who finish the season at 8-4. Scoring for the game was as follows: Andy Holderread 2, Jason Dipert 2, Brian Perry 2, Chris Coffey 3, Bruce Brown 3, Greg Vitali 4, and Aaron Casteel 11. Congratulations team and good luck next year. UREY WINS TOURNEY; FINISHES SEASON 12-2 The Urey Bth grade Falcons captured the LaPorte Boston Tourney with wins over New Prairie 50-20, and LaPorte Boston 45-24. Urey finished the season by defeating Oregon-Davis 50-10. This puts the team record at 12-2. Against New Prairie, the Falcons were led by Stacey Hardesty with 16 points followed by Brandon

Northam’s eight points. "The kids did a real good job recognizing the open spots against their zone and really attacked it. John Johnson did a nice job of controlling the middle and made things easier for us," noted coach Christlieb. The championship game was against LaPorte Boston, a team Urey beat in the regular season 32-30. The game was close for three quarters until a 15-3 run by Urey secured the victory. Hardesty again led Urey with 18 points, 17 in the second half. Rick O’Connor also was in double figures with 10 points. Coach Christlieb felt the play of Kevin Winger and Brian Norris was a key in the victory. "Winger scored eight points, rebounded well and blocked a few shots for us. His defensive play was super. He finally understands the way we need to play defense and he has really improved. Norris came in and did a good job, doing the little things we had to have done to win. He piayed defense, had a few steals and didn’t hurt the team. This is important when a player comes in off the bench and we as a team don’t lose anything. The last five games these kids really did a super job. They worked hard all season long and put things together down the stretch. 1 don’t think there was a game that someone off the bench didn't contribute to the team. These kids have matured on and off the court and 1 think their future is going to be bright." The Urey 7th grade team won at Oregon-Davis to finish the season 8-6. Leading scorer for Urey was Dennis Kaiser with 25. "This group worked hard all year long and had a good season. All of them have improved since the beginning of the season. I thought Toby Segraves really came on at the end of the season along with Troy Kriskovsky. I think they have the basis for a good season next year,’’ noted coach Christlieb. Team members were Shane Carbiener, Troy Kriskovsky, Toby Segraves, Ryan Peterson. Dennis Kaiser, Jerry McMahan, Tim Pletcher, Jeff Lindsley, Eric Pinckert and Chris Nimon. 2nd Nine Weeks And Semester Honor Rolls John Glenn High School second nine weeks honor roll and the first semester honor roll is as follows: SECOND NINE WEEKS SENIORS Distinguished David Belkiewitz
