Knox grabbed an early lead and led all the way, despite the effort of the GlFnn girls that kept them in
the ballgame until a big Knox third quarter moved the Redskins ahead by a safe margin. The win boosted Knox’s record to 11-5 and 5-1 in conference play, Glenn’s record slipped to 2-12 and they have yet to win in NSC conference play. B-Team Lose* 30-24 The Knox Bees made it a sweep for the night as they topped the Glenn reserves 30-24. Knox's JV's have an 11-3 record while Glenn is 6-6 for the season. The game, played at Jimtown. was never in doubt after the Falcons moved to the front in the opening minutes and grabbed a big 23 point lead by halftime. The Jimmies, co-co-conference champions the past two years, have a pretty inexperienced team and a new coach this year and have found the going rough with only two wins this season. The victory by the Falcons raised their overall record to 7-5 and increased their confernce mark to 3-2 this season. Good balance helped the Falcons jump to the early lead as all five starters scored in the opening quarter as they moved to a 15-7 lead, while Jimtown had only two boys score. The big 22-7 advantage in the second period, put the game out of doubt in the first half. In this period. Roger Spier led the way with 10 points and Chris Savoie chipped in with six as the 37-14 halftime margin was more than the Jimmies were going to overcome. Jimtown did cut into the Falcon lead slightly in the third stanza, outscoring the Falcons 13-8. but Glenn still enjoyed a 45-27 advantage as the final quarter unfolded. Coach Gordon Mosson used his bench freely in this final stanza as to two teams raced back and forth to combine for 44 points in the wide open play. The final score was 67-49. Spier topped all scorers with 21 points on seven baskets and as many free throws. Wes Pavey and Savoie also hit double figures with 12 and 10 respectively while nine players shared in the scoring totals. For Jimtown, Hill and Fowler hit double figures with 16 and 12 respectively to lead the Jimmies. Box Score Glenn tg ft fta p Pavey 6 0 0 1 Spier 77 8 1 B. After three quarters of nip and tuck, back and forth basketball, Pavey connected on six of seven shots from the floor and hit a perfect six of six from the free throw line to spearhead a 28-20 last quarter drive that accounted for victory number 8 in 13 starts for Glenn this year. This was a nonconference game, but Bremen will become a full fledged member of the Northern State Conference in two more years when all their schedules will be arranged for full conference participation. They are leaving the Northern Lakes Conference, in which they have been the smallest school for many years. The game was tight all the way. In the first quarter, Pavey and fellow senior Roger Spier, each had six points for Glenn but Bremen, with Bennett also totaling six points, trailed only 14-12 after the first eight minutes. Pavey continuted to be the Falcons strong performer, hitting consistently from the floor, putting in four more baskets in the second quarter. However, the Falcons only managed six additional points, and a more balanced Lion team took the lead by halftime 29-28, with Bennett continuing to lead the scoring but had six point help from Wirt as well and they took the one point lead into the dressing room at halftime. The game couldn’t have stayed any tighter in the third period. It was a case of Glenn baskets and Bremen free throws, as both teams scored 14 points in the back and forth period. Bremen still clinging to a slim one point lead. 43-42, heading into the final stanza. This is where the heroics of Pavey and his Falcon teammates took over. Glenn as a team in this period hit 10 of 14 shots from the floor and a perfect eight of eight from the stripe to total 28 points. Pavey had 18 of these with his six baskets and six of six from the line. Spier chipped in with six more, his third six-point quarter of the game. Bennett tried to keep the Lions in the game as he totaled 12 more in the final stanza, but they couldn’t get the job done against the now smooth-playing Falcons. The Final score was 70-63 in the exciting victory for Glenn. Pavey ended the night with 36 points, hitting 15 baskets and six of eight from the line, missing his first two attempts early in the contest. Spier added 20 points with seven baskets and six of six from the line, giving this senior duo 56 of Glenn’s 70 points for the game. Bennett had a fine performance for the Lions with 26 points on eight basskets and 10 of 11 from the foul line. Wirt hit double figures with 12 points, and for a change, Glenn was outshot from the foul line as Bremen had 17 of 23 one-pointers
to Glenn's 12 of 15. Pavey was also the game’s leading rebounder with eight. Play At Marian Friday The Falcons will only have one game this coming week as they travel to Mishawaka Manan on Friday night to take on the Knights in what should be a tough battle. Marian has been up and down this season but plays a much tougher schedule that always has a positive effect on a team. Box Score Glenn fg ft fta p Pavey 15 6 8 0 Spier 7 6 6 2 B.
