Falcons Run By Knox Redskins 76*45 Friday The John Glenn Falcons topped the Knox Redskins easily Friday night by a 76-45 score in a Northern State Conference game. The Falcons, despite having problems of their own offensively at different times in this game, pressured the visitors enough that turnovers, fouls and loose play was the mood of play for most of the game. The win. Glenn’s fifth in nine games, evened their NSC record at 2-2 while Knox dropped to 0-2 in the conference and 2-6 overall. After starting so poorly last week in the first period in the loss to Triton, the Falcons and Knox combined for about as bad a quarter of basketball as you could witness in this contest. Despite the fact that neither team was trying to slow things down, scoring just wasn't present in this quarter except for three baskets by Roger Spier. It went like this: with only 17 seconds gone, Brian Groves was fouled and got two shots, he hit the first. At the 6:27 mark an alley-oop pass to Spier from Pavey gave the Falcon senior his first basket. The next score of any kind came with 3:36 left in the quarter when Corey Krueger hit two free throws for Knox's first two points, now 3-2. Spier did manage a corner shot at the 3:01 mark and then with 1:56 left in the opening quarter. Ken Hampton hit two free throws for the visitors, now it was 5-4! With just :34 show ing on the clock. Chris Savoie was fouled and he hit both free throws. The Redskins did get a basket finally when they beat the Falcon press down court after the two free throws for a lay-in with just 32 ticks left on the clock. A seven footer by Spier finished a very poorly played first quarter off with Glenn leading 9-6. The Falcons pulled ahead by 12 before the halftime as this quarter did find some scoring from the floor, with both teams getting some field goals in this quarter. The Falcons outscored Knox 23-14 and from the floor they hit 10 baskets while Knox was getting six . . . almost half of their 14 they were to get for the entire game. Spier, who was Glenn's offense in the first quarter, had 10 points in this period to total 16 by halftime, and this was necessary with senior Wes Pavey on the bench with three fouls picked up in the first period. The outcome was decided as the second half started, but just to throw a damper on the scene, the third quarter was marred with whistle after whistle as both teams were pressing, fouling, committing

turnovers and in general just not playing a smooth game. The Fai cons put it way out of reach with 25 points in this period, nine of them coming from the free throw line and Knox meanwhile added seven of their 11 from the line, plus quite a few misses added to that. Both teams were in the bonus situation before the third quarter was half over, as this eight minute period took 40 minutes to play. Leading 57-31 after three, it was a matter of playing out the time and it also did give coach Gordon Mosson a chance to use his entire bench in this game, and they responded with nine of the 11 boys dressed got into the scoring column. Spier ended the night with 24 points to lead all scorers, and Pavey hit double figures with 14, all coming in the second half. For the Redskins. Ken Hampton and Ray Tarnow each had 13 to lead a very weak Knox club in this game. B-Team Wins Easily The Falcon B-Team again played well over the entire court to rack up a 49-31 victory in the preliminary game. Tourney Action This Weekend The Falcons will play LaVille Thursday night at LaVille in the second game that night in the annual Bi-County Tourney. The outcome of that will determine if they will see more action this week or not. as the winner of this game will advance to play the winner of the Oregon-Davis and New Prairie game on Friday night in the second game sometime after 8:30 p.m. John Glenn fg ft fta p Pavey 3 8 10 3 Spier 8 8 9 4 B. The second half, the Falcons came back to take the lead and move on to the victory. Outscoring their opponents 13-7 in the third period. Glenn held a slim two point lead, and then used the free throw line in the final stanza to help hold off the Pioneer team. Solmos hit seven of 10 in the final period herself. as Glenn was the recipient of 18 chances from the line in this period while Pioneer was still having trouble, hitting only five of 15 as this game turned into a free throw shooting contest. In the 50-42 victory. Glenn had only five different girls share the points, but coach Barb Osowski had to go to her bench as 30 personal fouls forced action by more individuals. In all. seven players fouled out. four for Pioneer and three for the Falcons. Solmos got her 15 points on two baskets and 11 of 16 from the stripe while Rhodes had six baskets and three of five from the line. Pioneer had two girls in double figures with Pam Zieder getting 16 points and Kathy Hamilton hitting ID. and actually outscored the hosts in the second half. However, a threepronged offense, with Julie Clark leading the way with 18, Tonya Bradley and Kimm Zachery each getting 11, was too much for the Glenn girls to handle. Trish O'Blenis paced the Falcons with 15 points and also pulled down 11 rebounds as she had her best individual effort of the year. Box Score Knox fg ft fta p J. Simoni 0 0 14 T.
