IVY TECH TO HOST AGRICULTURAL TELECONFERENCE Indiana Vocational Technical College, South Bend, will host a teleconference entitled: Debtor/ Creditor Relations — The Crisis In Agriculture. Thursday. January 22, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. This program will provide information to financial loan officers and others in the financial industry on farm asset regulation, farm firm reorganization and farm bankruptcy with emphasis on alternatives and new developments in tax legislation. The program is designed to focus attention on practical problems arising from severely indebted agriculture producers. The presenter for this program will be Dr. Hari. In the early 1980’s Dr. Hari provided warnings of the imminent financial crisis in agriculture. He followed with intensive educational efforts about the nature of the crisis and the policy alternatives for dealing with it. The federal Debt Adjustment Program announced by President Reagen in 1984 incorporated the bulk of Dr. Hari's suggestions for debt restructuring. The Farm Credit System's proposed Agricultural Conservation Corporation and FCS's Capital Corporation enacted into law in 1985 are direct descendents of a proposal made by Dr. Hari. The teleconference topics will include a discussion of a rational approach to loan review for purposes of loan restructuring or liquidation, consideration of bankruptcy options with special attention to the new Chapter 12 for family farm operations, review of the tax consideration of liquidations and restructurings and consideration of relevant provisions from Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code as the provisions affect the security position of lenders. For more information about this teleconference please call the Department of External Training at IVY Tech at 289-7001. extension 221, or 674-6919. Deadline for registration is Friday. January 16.
