Lt. Gov. John Mutz spoke at the opening session relating how Farm Organizations have access to farm policies, land use. property tax and reassessment. "There should be property tax lowering" he said, "and the farmer should decide what to do with the food produced from the farm" There is a need for more research and more variety of ways for processing. A need for new plants to make the value added and additional employment and a new opportunity . . . which will effect the change in agriculture. Marion Stackhouse, president of the Indiana Farm Bureau, spoke on the organization being challenged with many new conditions and situations uncommon to farmers. I hese conditions are having drastic effects on our lives. In the past year, agriculture has been one of confusion. And some of this has been caused by our heavy dependance upon the government and the late government program decisions and economy. Russia is not buying a thing from the United States. This will be a tremendous deteriant on agruculture prices. In an address by Jolene Brown, West Branch, Indiana, relating to the human side of farming, she said "It’s not what you have done in the past that counts — but what you begin to do today. In the evening awards session, Robert Mulligan, of the English Department of the John Glenn School Corporation, was awarded the outstanding teacher of the year award and a check for 51,000.00 from the president, Marion Stackhouse. Also recognized with receiving the Fred Hovde Award, was Purdue Specialist in antomology, David L. Matthew. Six special interest conferences were held Monday for those wishing to choose the topics of "Agricultural Finance", "High Stakes Os International Trade", "Understanding The Current Reassessment Os Real Property", "Environ I mental Rules And The Farmer", "Changing Os Consumer Atti- | tudes And What Farmers Can Do About Them", and "The New You I Is Stepping Out" I apes are available for thd I speeches of ( apt Coffee, a nasal officer and former Fleet Air Opera I tions officer in the Pacfk who was shot down bv enems fire over | North Vietnam and a pnsorcr of war lor seven years. and also that | of Jolene Brown Humanist, of lowa bv ailing Evelyn Harbaugh I ' 8 1
