MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS NEWS The Urey 6th grade basketball team played LaVille with the young Lancers winning, 26-18. For the Falcons Brian Perry had six points; Greg Vitali and Jimmy Vitali each had four points and Aaron Casteel and Jason Dipert had two points each. For LaVille Bobby Fogle had seven points. The boys played hard but they couldn't make the inside shots. They hope to improve for the next contest which will be held on Thursday at North Liberty. The Urey 6th grade team won over North Liberty 31-17 with Aaron Casteel having 11 points and Brian Perry nine points. This was a key game, each player got to play in two quarters. The players are coming together as a team and confidence is improving. North Liberty 7th grade team played LaVille on November 25 and lost by a score of 36-19 to the Lancers. B. J. North Liberty’s Bth grade basketball team won over LaVille 41-21 on November 25 with Andy Battles getting 12 points. Marty Hesch 10 points, Ty Phipps, Loren Knowlton and Eric Kandistorfer four points each; Brady Holderread and Tim Cark two points each and Ryan Wood one point. A strong second half led by Hesch and Loren Knowlton’s seven rebounds each consistently increased the Falcon lead. The key to the win was the intensity and enthusiasm displayed by all the team members. North Liberty's 6th grade team on December 4 played Walkerton with the Walkerton team winning 31-17. Randy Winkleman had seven points, Trent Ridgway six points while Jason Dittmar and Joel Limerick each had two points. Dittmar was good help on defense and Kenny VanHulle had super hustle and the best all round effort on the team. North Liberty’s Sth grade team had a dose game with Walkerton December 4 with Walkerton winning 33-28. North Liberty played very well as did Walkerton, according to Tim Davis, coach. Walkerton just overpowered Liberty with their talent and hustle. High scorer was Jerry Gorby with 20 points, Ryan Walls had four and

Jason Roush and Andy Kaser each had two. Jason Fisher had great hustle on defense and great rebounding. Special Note Urey sixth grade girls should come to the elementary school on Monday for basketball try-outs which will end at 6:00 p.m. Any girl who doesn't have her physical yet should still attend. The seventh grade team recorded their first win of the year against Argos by a score of 31-23. Kevin Stedman led all scorers with 19 points along with nine rebounds. Shawn Nard dominated the defensive boards with eight as B. J. Walls contributed with six assists. Team members for this season are Jason Kaser, Jason Hickman, James Karst, Jim Peterson, John Camblin, Scott Hall. Mike Birk, Mike Krill, Mike Rozycki, Kenny Ballard, Nathan Davis, B. J. Walls, Derek Clardy, Matt Arick, Shawn Nard, Kevin Stedman and manager Steve Prout. The 7th grade Liberty Falcons scored 19 points in the third quarter against Oregon-Davis to post a 37 - 18 win for the second victory of the season. Stedman and Walls led in the scoring column with 17 and 13 points. Shawn Nard and Jason Kaser scored a basket each while Hall added three points. The North Liberty Bth grade basketball team traveled to Argos on December 3 and came home with win number two, 36 - 25. Andy Battles scored 15 points and Brady Holderread added six points. Knowlton, Hesch and Phipps scored four points each as Kandistorfer was two for two at the free throw line. Ryan Wood dished out four assists while the most rebounds were Battles with 11, Knowlton nine and Hesch 7. North Liberty hosted OregonDavis December 4 and claimed victory number three by the score of 35 - 18. Battles scored the first eight points of the game and a total of 19 points in three quarters of play. Ralph Campion and Loren Knowlton each added six points as Hesch and Daugherty scored a basket each. Kandistorfer ran the offense with four assists and Knowlton had nine rebounds. FRESHMAN TEAM WINS FIFTH GAME The John Glenn freshman basketball team increased their record to 5-0 Monday night when they faced the New Prairie Cougars, at New Prairie. The victory was secured by a very well played third quarter, as the Falcons won by a 58-37 margin. The scoring for the Falcons was well balanced with Randy Pontius leading both teams with 13 points. Charlie Winger, Chris Stedman and John Dillon each added eight points while Chris Stull pumped in seven. In all nine different Falcons scored. Winger led all rebounders with eight as Dillon grabbed four and Pontius, Steman and Jerry Beem reached for three apiece. The Falcons will travel to CMA on Thursday evening. Glenn Girls Win Ist In Overtime At Oregon-Davis The John Glenn girls basketball team won their first game of the season last Wednesday as they took an overtime thriller from Oregon-Davis by a 54-52 score. This made their record 1-2 in the young season while the O-D girls dropped to 1-3 for the year. The Lady Falcons found some scoring balance in this game and also dominated the play in several categories to account for the win. The game was close the entire way as the first half was considerably slower than the second. Glenn led 12-10 after one as Dawn Rhodes had three baskets in this quarter. By halftime, the Bobcats had tied the score at 19. The third period found the Bobcats moving ahead by four as they outscored the Falcons 18-14, but a good last quarter, which included a lot of free throws, found the Lady Falcons coming on to catch their hosts and force the extra period. Glenn then outscored them 6-4 in the extra three minutes to account for the win. Tammy Rupel totaled 17 points to lead a balanced Glenn attack as she had seven baskets and 3 of 8 from the foul line. Rhodes and Trish O’Blenis had five baskets each to reach double figures for Glenn. Robyn Carmichael paced the. losers with 14 points on four baskets and six of 13 from the foul line. Roberta Slusher and Sam Learch each reached double figures with 10 points for O-D. O’Blenis, Ingrid Boise and Sol mos led a rebounding advantage with 11, 8 and 6 respectively while Solmos had seven assists and four steals to lead in these departments with Rhodes having four assists and four steals also for Glenn. B-Team Wine Big The Glenn B-Team won their second game in three tries with a 24-10 victory over the O-D Bees, now 1 -3 for the year. Box Score
