Common School Fund — Computer Loan Proposals: Members of the administration staff presented written computer loan proposals to the Board. Also included were time logs showing the frequency of use for the computers presently located in the school buildings. Board members questioned the building principals regarding potential use of the computer loan funds. Dr. Smith explained that utilization of the loan funds in the amount of $47,668 would mean a financial commitment to the debt service rate of approximately six cents per year in 1988 and 1989. This is based upon the established interest rate of 6% simple interest. Dr. Smith and the building principals asked Board members to study these proposals and ask additional questions for clarification, if neces-. sary. A final decision on whether these funds may be used is requested following the first of the year in order to allow for an appropriated lead time for a bidding process. NEW BUSINESS A. North Liberty School. North Central Associaton First Year Follow Up Study: Mr. Kaufman, principal at North Liberty School, presented a report to the Board concerning the North Central Association evaluation of North Liberty School during the spring of 1986. A first year follow up study is due to the state organization on January 15. 1987. He presented information to the Board detailing that recommendations by the visiting committee are being addressed in the following manner: items are listed as having been fully implemented, partially implemented, will be implemented, undetermined and inappropriate. He also reported that the North Liberty School steering committee has identified three major areas which are addressed throughout the NCA evaluation report. These are learning media services, a need for a unified middle school, and financial considerations. NCA member schools are subject to yearly evaluation reports, a one and three year follow up study of an on site visitation, and an on site visitation every seven years. Board members commented that although there were some serious considerations found within the written report, it was obvious that the overall context of the report was very positive and complimentary to the North Liberty Elementary and Middle Schools.
