The John Glenn Art Department is celebrating their 10th consecutive National Citation for Excellence in Fine Art. The award marks the schools participation in the 1986 Scholastic Art Awards program. From thousands of schools across the country, ours was one of 314 receiving the citation. Instrumental in winning this year's award were Robin Lute, who won two national awards, one for drawing and one for printmaking; and Chris Williams, who won a national scholarship to the American Academy of Art. The National Exhibition was held this July at the Philadelphia College of Arts, Philadelphia, Pa. With freshman Tawanna Jackson pouring in a school record of 35 points, outscoring the Lady Falcons by one point herself, the Colonials had little trouble in winning 66-34. The loss dropped the Glenn record to 1-3 on the season while Clay improved to 5-1. It wasn’t all Jackson, but the flashy freshman turned in a consistent performance the entire way as she scored 8, 12, 6 and 9 points in the four quarters to pace the attack. Gay led by scores of 14-7 and 33-15 at the first two stops to take command and they never were threatened. Jackson tallied her 35 points on 16 baskets and three of five from the foul line. She had double figure help from Brenda Gorski, another freshman, with 12, and Jenny Adams, a junior, with 10 points. Dawn Rhodes led the Falcons with 9, followed by Tammy Rupel and Ingrid Boise with 8 each.
