J. 6. SPELL BOWL TEAM QUALIFIES FOR STATE FINALS The John Glenn High School Spell Bowl Team will be one of 2b teams in Indiana to compete in the State Championship round of the Hoosier Spell Bowl to be held November 15, at Brownsburg High School, just west of Indianapolis. The selection of state competitors was based on the results of district competition held across Indiana on October 16. In district competition. 128 high schools in four enrollment classes vied for scores that would qualify them for state competition. With approximately 30 schools in each enrollment class, only the top six schools (or seven in case of a tie) from each class were invited to the State Championship. In district competition hosted by John Glenn, the team scores were as follows: Class 1— LaPorte 71. Riley 66, Washington 66. LaSalle 65. Mishawaka 65; Gass 2 — Plymouth 67. North Wood 63: Gass 3 — John Glenn 68. Winamac 63. Bremen 52: Gass 4 — Argos 69. Ore-gon-Davis 61. Triton 58. Only John Glenn in Class 3 and Argos in Gass 4 qualified for the State Championship. The John Glenn Spell Bowl Team members are David Belkiewitz. Ryan Jones. Lora Stratton, Angie Shetland. Matt Wieczork. Lisa Smith. Laura Chance. David Chamberlin, Brenda Petry, Matt Holderbaum. Alternates are Lisa Berry, Cindy Wright. Stephanie Beem, Susan Springman, Heather Shrum, Jennifer Gibson. The Spell Bowl Team is coached by English teacher Shirley Ross.

PLAN DANCE AT UREY The Urey P.T.A. is sponsoring a Sock Hop, on Friday, November 21. for Urey Middle School students. Dancing in socks will help protect the basketball floor as the season opens, but the old fashion idea will be to 1980’s music with flashing lights and vibrating volume. There will also be a sock contest with three categories: most creative, wierd and wild and famous pairs. Prizes for these and other door prizes have 1)060 donated by generous merchants of Walkerton including the Dairy Queen, Jack's Service Station. Lea's House Os Pizza and Ray & Kenny’s Super Valu. Dancing will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and the cost is $2.00 with 50 cents off for those with their parents P.T.A. membership cards. Music will be by "Sound Perfection", from Michigan City. The youth fitness trophy was presented to Tracie Elkin and the scholastic achievement winner was Sabrina Wilson. Non-finalist creative and performing arts winner was Lori Frame. The Walkerton Jaycees sponsor the pageant each year and would at this time like to thank all area businesses for their support and to everyone who helped put the pageant on.

PTSA TO HOLD DANCE John Glenn High School's PSTA's first activity of the year will be to sponsor a school dance on November 21. The dance will be held after the basketball game with South Central and end at midnight. Professional DJ’s from "Sound Perfection" will be on hand. Tickets are $3.00 at the door and presale tickets may be purchased during lunch beginning on November 17. Tickets will include chances to win one of the 10 door prizes donated by local merchants from pizzas to sun tanning gift certificates. Pre-sale tickets are also eligible for discounts with their parents PTSA membership card or by bringing in a canned food for a Thanksgiving blessing. All profits will go toward the PTSA Reflections contest and citizenship contests. CHRISTMAS DINNER FOR ST. PATRICK’S WOMEN’S CLUB MEMBERS SET The St. Patrick's Women’s Gub is having it's annual Christmas Dinner, on Wednesday. December 3. at 6:30 p.m., at G’s Dockside Restaurant Ac Pub. Koontz Lake. Presbyterian Halloween Party Is Well Received Both the children and their parents had a great time at the annual Halloween Party held at the First Presbyterian Church in Walkerton. The children bobbed for apples, walked in the cup cake walk and played many other games. Refreshments were enjoyed during the party and each child was given a bag of Halloween goodies to take home. The costume judging was done in three age categories. In the 1 to 4 year old category, the winners were Andrew Gillies. Jessica Daube and Brian Bolze. Among those from 5 to 8 years of age the winners were Ryan Schmeltz, Sarah Gillies and Melissa Ream. In the 9 through 13

Christmas Fiesta Theme For Annual Holiday Bazaar The annual Tri Kappa "Christmas Fiesta" Bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Masonic Temple, downtown Walkerton. The affair is sponsored by Epsilon Chi Tri Kappa and will have a raffle for a handmade Fiesta Quilt for first prize; a lighted ceramic Christmas tree for second prize and a Mexican blanket from Mexico, as third prize. Tickets can be purchased the day of the bazaar. Also offered at the bazaar will be plants, decorated cookie tins along with the many beautiful wooden crafts. A bake sale will be held with assorted cookies plates, cakes, pies, breads, candy and other assorted goodies. Come and have breakfast with us. We will be serving homemade cinnamon rolls, coffe and milk. There will be tables of beautiful handmade craft items made by the members and they will also have the magic ribbon. Proceeds will go towards local scholarships. Plan on attending this great event and do your Christmas shopping with us. Basketball Season Tickets Now On Sale Season tickets for the 1986-8" basketball season are on sale in the John Glenn High School office. The price is $15.00 for adults and SIO.OO for students. Single game ticket prices for varsity boys bask etball are $2.50 for adults and $2.00 for students. Ticket prices for girls basketball, wrestling and freshman basketball are $1.50 for adults and SI.OO for students. year old group those winning prizes were Bryan Verkier, Jerry Niles and Vicki Niles. The prizes were gift certificates which can be redeemed at Jacob Drug Store. Nancy Reynolds, chairperson for the event, expressed her thanks to all those who so generously gave of their time and talent to provide this party for the children of our community. All children who do now regularly attend a Sunday School in this area are always welcome at 9:30 a m. each Sunday morning at the First Presbyterian Church. The church phone is 586-3301.
