Rensselaer visiting the Falcons. The Cougars, with their win and the victory by Jimtown over LaVille, ended the conference season in a tie for the lead and Glenn finished in a three way tie for fourth this season. Glenn’s conference record is 2-4. Their bigger, more experienced line just simply controlled the play until late in the game when the Falcons were able to get some passes off. With their hard charging defensive line, the Cougars held Glenn to minus yardage on the ground, thanks to some big sacks, a bad pitchout on an attempted sweep and the inability of the Falcon line to contain the Cougars most of the game. The scoring started fast and this time it was the Falcons. Receiving the kickoff, Sam Borton caught the kick at his own 14 yard line and ran straight up the middle getting through the wall of blockers around the 30 to 35 yard line and was in the open for the 86 yard return. The extra point was blocked, but the Falcons had struck first and led 6-0. Things continued to look up for Glenn as their defense, which really has played much better than a 2-6 record would indicate, held the visiting Cougars at bay on their first three possessions, forcing punts each time. On Glenn’s first possession from scrimmage, they manage to gain two first downs and moved from their own 26 to the New Prairie 40 before being forced to punt. This kept the ball in New Prairie territory the entire first quarter and early in the second period on their third possession from scrimmage, a mistake once again opened the door for the Cougars. A fumble was recovered by P. J. Bernth giving New Prairie the ball at their own 31. However, after not making a first down in the first period in three possessions, the Cougars simply took over with some straight power football. They

uncorked a 13 play sustained drive that had no gain longer than 9 yards, but it gathered four first downs along the way before Bob Overmyer crashed over from one yard out. A wide kick that was apparently deflected slightly, left it 6-6, the way the first half was to end. Things went all New Prairie’s way in the second half, much of it brought on by the Falcons mistakes. However, it was basically speed that accounted for the first score just four plays after the kickoff when Brad Trosper broke through the line and beat everyone on aSO yard scamper for a TD. A good kick by Doug Curl made it 13-6 with less than two minutes left in the half. Glenn was forced to punt the ball, but the Cougars obliged by fumbling the ball away on their fourth play. Glenn recovered at the Cougar 39 yard line. On a key third down and 14 play, Willie Hostrawser hit Brian Groves for a 27 yard gain down to the Cougar 16 yard line with another first down. On the first play, Mike Radandt appeared to score as he broke free around the right side and waltzed into the end zone only to have that ugly yellow flag laying on the field near the line of scrimmage. A chop block was called on an interior lineman, and not only took away the touchdown, but put the ball back on the 26 yard line. Three plays later a fumble was covered by the Cougars and instead of having a tie or one-point bailgame, the Falcons still trailed by seven and didn’t have the ball.

The Cougars put together another 13 play drive, this time using the ground and their only completed pass of the game, to march 72 yards for the score. Overmyer once again plowed over from one yard out and Curl kicked the point after and it was 20-6 with only 6:56 left in the game. A series of turnovers by both clubs and a New Prairie punt put Glenn deep in their own territory late in the game when on a desperation scramble Hostrawser was swung around pretty hard and dropped the football which was covered in the end zone for a 22 yard loss and a New Prairie touchdown, this coming with only 56 ticks of the clock left. This ended the scoring even though the Falcons completed a couple of long passes to end the game on the New Prairie three yard line. Trosper had a great night rushing for New Prairie with 127 yards in 22 carries. Glenn's only consistent offense was passing later in the game and they did roll up 135 yards on eight completions in this manner.
