GLENN VOLLEYBALL TEAM BUSY THIS PAST WEEK The Glenn volleyball team was busy the past week with three matches and the Glenn Invitational Tourney taking place. LaVille Tops Glenn On Tuesday, October 7, LaVille hosted the Lady Falcons and won by scores of 16-14 and 15-9 to stay undefeated in Northern State Conference play. For Glenn Michelle Mlekodaj had a perfect serving accuracy w ith 10 out of 10; Tammy Osborn led in kills with 5 and ip passes with 13. Ingrid Boise had the most sets, 24. This dropped the Glenn record to 4-9 and 1-3 in conference play while LaVille advanced to 14-3 overall and 4-0 in NSC action. The Glenn B-Team topped LaVille by scores of 15-4, 12-15 and 15-6. Bekcy Fair, Tricia Kerckhove and Angie Mlekodaj all had 100% serving accuracy. Kim Huizenga, Tricia Kerckhove and Becky Fair had three kills each and Becky Fair had 14 passes. Julie Beem had the best passing average and Karen Schmidt the most sets, 22. The Glenn Bees inproved their record to 10-6 while LaVille slipped to 11-7 for the year. C.G.A. Wins Over Glenn On Thursday the Culver Girls Academy visited Glenn and took home a victory by scores of 15-9 and 15-3. For Glenn Ingrid Boise had 100% serving accuracy and the most sets, 28. Shwanda Clemons, Tammy Osborn and Leanne Shuler had 3 kills each and Tammy Osborn had 13 passes. This made the Glenn record 4-10 and CGA moved to 5-7. The CGA Bees also won by
scores of 3-15, 15-9 and 15-9. Lyn Wallace, Tricia Kerckhove and Becky Fair all had 100% serving accuracy and Kerckhove had 5 kills. Fair led with the most passes. 9. and Dawn Gorby had the best passing average. Julie Beem had 29 sets for the now 10-7 Glenn girls while Culver improved their record to 3-6. Glenn Invitational In the Glenn Invitational on Saturday. Glenn won over Culver 15-13 and 15-7. Knox topped Oregon-Davis 15-7 and 15-6. In the third match, Knox beat Culver 15-10 and 15-5. Glenn then beat Oregon-Davis 10-15, 15-3 and 15-7. Culver followed with a win over Oregon-Davis by scores of 15-17, 15-9 and 15-12. In the championship match, Knox won over Glenn 15-9, 8-15 and 15-12 to win the title. The team records after the
tourney are Culver 10-11; Glenn, 6-11; Knox, 13-11; and OregonDavis 7-18. For the tourney (3 matches) Ingrid Boise had 35 of 36 serves for a 92.5 serving accuracy, 186 sets; Mindy Salyer had 37 passes; and Amy Kaser 21 kills. Glenn Tops Marquette On Monday, Glenn hosted Michigan City Marquette and won their 7 match of the year against 11 loses by scores of 16-14 and 15-10. Ingrid Boise had 11 out of 11 serves and 34 sets to led the Lady Falcons in these two departments. Mindy Salyer, Shwanda Clemons and Tammy Osborn had 5 kills each; Salyer 12 passes and Clemons the best passing average. The B-Team also won boosting their record to 11-7 on the season. The team served 96% accuracy with Kim Huizenga having 7 kills; Becky Fair and Julie Beem 9 passes; Fair the best passing average and Beem the most sets, 18. MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS NEWS The North Liberty seventh grade volleyball team played Urey on Wednesday, Octoberr 8, with Urey winning by scores of 17-15 and 15-11. Rachelle Snell was 14 for 14 serving giving her 100 percent accuracy and Missy Hawley also served 100% making eight out of eight. This moves the North Liberty team record to one win and four losses. The North Liberty seventh grade volleyball team won over OregonDavis on Thursday, October 9. by scores of 15-8 and 15-4. Rachelle Snell and Sabrina Davey served for 86 percent although the team serving was low. Despite the serving it was the Falcons best offensive match of the season as they consisently used three hits. Tonya Annis played superb defense and dug up some tough serves and returns. This now gives the team two wins and four losses. The North Liberty/Urey seventh grade football team won 30-0 over New Prairie on Thursday, October 2. Shane Carbiener scored three touchdowns and a two-point conversion. The first touchdown was a 75 yard romp. Ryan Peterson scored a touchdown and a twopoint conversion. James Karst closed out the scoring with a twopoint conversion. There was good blocking by the linemen Kaiser, Wiegand, Drews, Meyer, Eddinger and Statman. Defensively Derreck Clardy, Shane Carbiener, Dennis Kaiser, Chad Drews, Ryan Peterson and John Camblin all shined for the defense. This was a fine team effort on the way to another junior Falcon victory. This win makes it number three for the team, no losses and one tie. The eighth grade football team lost to New Prairie by a score of 14-8. The offense got things rolling in the last two minutes of the game but it was too little too late as the Falcons lost a tough one. The only Falcon score came on a John Johnson pass to Rick O'Connor who pitched to Kirk Cordell who scored on a4O yard run. Cordell also scored the two-point conversion. Also playing well for the offense was John Boman. Bryon Vandall, Kirk Cordell, Eric Hostetler and Jimmy Houser all gave steady defensive efforts. Coach Pattison was proud of the eight grade “never say die” spirit despite the final outcome. This now puts the team record at 2-2. The seventh and eighth grade football team on October 7, played South Central and the Falcons came out on top by a score of 32-22. Kirk Cordell really shined for the offense having three touchdowns, one a 60 yard flee flicker play and another a 60 yard dash on a long run. Scoring a two-point conversion was Ralph Campion. Also scoring touchdowns were John Bryan on a 75 yard kickoff return.
The last touchdown was scored on a pass from John Johnson to Rick O’Connor. Fine blocking was provided by Rod Anderson, Ryan Ward. Jim Houser, Bryan Vandall, John Bryson, Travis Replogle, Loren Knowlton and Craig Ross. Ralph Campion had a fine game along with Byron Craft, Rick O'Connor, Dennis Kaiser, Kenny Rensberger, Loren Knowlton and John Johnson. Ryan Peterson had an interception. This was another fine show ing as the offense finally exploded for 32 points this game. After a 20-0 halftime score the junior Falcons held onto take the victory. This now makes their record 3 wins and two losses. The Urey eighth grade volleyball team won over North Liberty by scores of 15-10 and 15-6 on Wednesday. October 8. Their record stands at three wins and four losses.
