with Sam Borton covering the free ball at the Culver 14 yard line. After a 3 yard gain by Dave Searfoss, a penalty set Glenn back five yards. Searfoss got 2 more, putting it back at the original line of scrimmage and on the third down play. Willie Hostrawser, playing at the quarterback position this week in place of the injured Wes Pavey, hit Brain Groves with a nice pass for the touchdown. Craig Groves kicked the extra point and Glenn led 7-0 with 6:42 still remaining in the first quarter. The two teams then traded possession several times before Glenn got great field positon on another Culver fumble, this one covered by Searfoss. Starting at the 14 once again, they were unable to sustain a drive and a field goal attempt from the 26 was wide to the right. The rest of the first half still found Glenn holding the advantage but not able to capitalize on these chances. They were intercepted once in the end zone to stop a drive and only a long punt on a quick kick formation good for 61 yards backed the Falcons well into their own territory. The second half began similar to the first, a Culver fumble setting up Glenn's second TD. After receiving the kick and not being able to sustain a drive, Culver dropped into punt formation but a mishandled snap on the punt attempt found the would-be punter Stacy Hartle being tackled for a 23 yard loss, giving Glenn a first and goal at the 8 yard line. On the first play Mike Radandt broke right through the middle for his first varsity
touchdown and Craig Groves once again was true with the kick and the Falcons led 14-0 with only 3:02 elapsed in the third quarter. A series of possessions followed with neither team able to make a first down and running three offensive plays and punting until late in the quarter when Glenn lost possession on a completed pass and fumble that gave the Cavaliers the ball at their own 32 yard line. After a two yard loss and a four yard gain, On the first play of the final stanza, Greg Lewis dropped back for a quick pass over the middle to Rodney Ringer and the fleet receiver to it in stride and outdistanced the Glenn secondary for a 66 yard pass and run play. Greg McCallister then ran for a two point conversion and it was the Falcons 14, Cavaliers 8 with 11:50 remianing to be played in the game. Glenn managed to get the ball to the Culver 47 after the next kickoff before being forced to punt again. This time Bill Kammerer’s punt was downed at the 1 yard line, putting Culver in a serious hole as time now started to be an important factor. However, on a third and 6 from the five yard line, Hartle was able to gain only about four yards but a face mask penalty gave Culver 15 big yards and another first down. However this potential drive ended on the next play when Kraig Perkins intercepted a Lewis pass, giving Glenn the ball again. Still unable to sustain anything. Culver took over on downs at their own 16 and on the second play, after an incomplete pass, the fleet Greg McCallister broke one down the right sideline that gained 57 yards before being tackled by the Glenn secondary. However, the ball was now inside the Glenn 30 and with less than six minutes to play, it put all the excitement that was possible back in the game. The Falcons were able to hold again, taking over at the 26, but on first down, a Searfoss fumble was covered by the Cavaliers Hartle and thev went to work again starting at the 28. Four running plays were tried and the first three gained 7 yards, but on the key fourth down play, Greg McCallister was tackeied for no gain, giving Glenn the ball once again. A key third down pass on from Hostrawser to Brian Groves gave the Falcons their only first down of the second half, but was good enough to let them run the clock out on four THOUSANDS OF ITEMS TO HELP PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS AnHtble From NEDRA WILLIAMS 586-3627 Newton Mfg. running plays, icing the 14-8 victory. Neither team was impressive on offense and only two big plays by Culver, the 66 yard TD pass and run and McCallister’s 57 yard run, gave them yardage at all. Glenn was held below 100 yards both on the ground and in the air, but used two of the opportunities given to turn it into victory. Hoot New Prairie Friday In the final season game, the New Prairie Cougars, an improved team over a year ago. will be visiting Glenn and trying to remain alive for a share of the conference title if Jimtown can beat LaVille, forcing a three-way tie for the top.
