OBITUARIES

A. ROSS MESSANA A. Ross Messana, 29, of 23674 Roosevelt Road, South Bend, passed away at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, in LaPorte, as the result of a motorcycle accident on October 4, at Walnut and Rockstroh roads, North Liberty. He

was born on April 29, 1957, in South Bend and was a carpenter. Surviving are his parents, Angelo F. and Rose Donnabell Messana, South Bend; four sisters, Donna Hartman, Zelda Gard and Diane Messana, all of South Bend, and Rosann Messana, Phoenix, Arizona; and two brothers, Frank Zavor and Michael Allen Messana, both of Mishawaka. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Sumption Prairie Cemetery, with Rev. Tim Toole, pastor of the Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call at the A. M. Manuel Funeral Home North Liberty, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, CONRAD KRISKOVSKY, SR. Conrad Kriskovsky, Sr., 73, of Rural Route 1, Box 349-B, Grovertown, passed away at 7:15 am., on Sunday, October 12, at his home after being ill five years. He was born on September 3, 1913, in Czechoslovokia and had lived in this area 37 years coming from Berwyn, Illinois. He was married on October 26, 1936, in Chicago, to Frances Puozar, who survives. He was a retired farmer and tool and die maker. Surviving along with his wife are a daughter, Marie Kranenburg, Grovertown; two sons, Conrad, Jr., Walkerton, and Thomas, Trego, Wisconsin; six granchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters. Elsie Sainer, North Judson, and Adeline Zavrel, Berwyn, Illinois. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel, with burial following in the Grovertown Cemetery. MARGARET BIRK Margaret Leatha Tiede Birk, 82, of 12050 U. S. Road 6, Plymouth, passed away at 2:55 p.m. on Tuesday, in the LaPorte Hospital, following a sudden illness. She was born on March 18, 1904, to Roger F. and Lulu Mae (Allison) Gunn, in Danville, Illinois, and had lived in the area for the past 60 years. She married Charles L. Tiede, on February 7, 1924, in Danville, Illinois, who preceded her in death on November 3. 1963. She then married Edgar Paul Birk, on November 18, 1968, in Plymouth, who surivies. Surviving are a daughter, Lorraine M. Moe rm an, Walkerton; two sons, Dr. Loren T. Tiede, Indianapolis, and Charles R. Tiede, Wabash; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Eva L. Dutoi, Dowagiac, Michigan, Mrs. Vivian Hockett, Walkerton, and Mrs. Evelyn Kline, Mulkeytown, Illinois; and two brothers, Earl Gunn, Mishawaka, and Robert Gunn, Pensacola, Florida. One son. Jack Tiede, preceded her in death in 1977. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the First United Presbyterian Church, Walkerton, with Rev. Richard Reynolds, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. Friends may call at the Nus-baum-Elkin Funeral Home, Walkerton, from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 189 Ladies Auxiliary.
