Falcons Drop 19-7 Decision To Triton Friday The old saying about “not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog" might well be put use in the Friday night Triton Trojan win over the John Glenn Falcons. Glenn, playing without their senior quarterback, Wes Pavey, nursing a cracked bone in his hand, just couldn’t match the intensity and desire of the visiting Triton team in this 19-6 loss, Glenn’s fifth in six tries this season. The win was Triton’s second in six games and both teams are now 1-3 in Northern State Conference play. Despite their best running stats in a few games, the 167 yards of total offense and the five turnovers just is not going to win ballgames. They really missed the strong arm of Pavey, and just couldn’t make up for this in other ways. The defense played well most of the time, but they can’t continue to stop teams with so much pressure on them lyThe two teams battled back and forth in the first half, a rather conservative half that did find the Falcons sustaining one drive from their own 16 to the Triton 14, before turning the ball over on downs. The big play in this drive was a screen pass from John Pinckert to fullback Dave Searfoss

that was good for 41 yards. Triton never got deeper than the Falcon 38 yard line in this half. The second half provided the action. Glenn had four passes intercepted and a fumble lost on a punt in this half to self destruct. After a punt about halfway through the third quarter, Triton’s quarterback, Jim Shively, hit Steve Trowbridge with a slant pass across the middle and the fleet receiver outdistanced the Glenn secondary for an overall 65 yard touchdown play. Dan Williamson kicked the extra point and the Trojans drew first blood 7-0 with 5:08 showing in the third quarter. The next two Glenn possessions were thwarted by pass interceptions, the last one coming early in the fourth quarter and gave the Trojans the ball at the Glenn 29. It took eight rushing plays to cover the 29 yards, but with 6:21 left in the game, Triton took a 13-0 lead on a one yard plunge by Todd Lemler. The ensuing kickoff was one of those things. Sam Borton had trouble picking up a low bounding kick on the wet field, but when he did pick it up at the 22 yard line, he found an opening in the oncharging Triton team which often happens on such a play, and he ran 78 yards for the score. A wide kick attempt left it at 13-6 with 6:06 left in the game, giving the Falcons some hope yet in this homecoming game. However, Triton picked up two first downs after an attempted onside kick, and this carried them deep into Falcon territory where Willamson finally broke one for 20

yards and the score. This made it 19-6 with just 3:16 left and put the game out of reach for all practical purposes. Any doubts were erased when Triton picked off their fourth pass of the night on the following series of downs. Despite only having 24 boys in uniform, the Triton roster only lists three seniors and the desire and ability they displayed has to be encouraging for a program that has been falling off badly in recent years. Visit Colver Friday The Falcons will travel to Culver to play a winless Culver team Friday in another conference game. The kickoff is set for 7:30 at the Culver field.
