WELCOME TO THE WORLD MELISSA ANN CLARK We Love You AUNT CONNIE AND UNCLE GENE Falcons Drop 22-13 N.S.C. Gamo To The Lancers A safety and then a kickoff return on the free kick were the two big plays of the game as LaViHe scored nine points in 11 seconds to break a 7-7 tie and take a 16-7 lead on their way to a 22-13 victory over the Glenn Falcons Friday night. The Lancers big line was the difference in the game, controlling the line play on both sides, spearheading a steady ground attact for their backs and on defense completely stopping any ground game of the Falcons. The loss was Glenn's second in three games and evens the Northern State Conference mark at 1-1. For the Lancers, they are now 2-1 and 2-0 in conference play. Playing without Dave Rupel for the second time in three weeks, it left the burden of running the ball solely on the shoulders of Dave Searfoss and not only was the big LaVille line keying on and stopping him. they were so controlling the play Glenn could go nowhere on the ground. The two teams exchanged punts two times each, the last of the four comine bv LaVille late in the first quarter and it squibbed off the side of the punter's foot for only 10 yards. This gave the Falcons excellent field position, first and 10 at the LaVille 35. On first down, Wes Pavey hit Brian Groves for 32 yards, making it first and goal from the 3. However, after two running plays didn’t gain an inch, Pavey went back to the air and his favorite receiver. Groves, for three yards and the score. Dave Belkiewicz kicked the extra point and it was Glenn 7-0 over LaVille, with :59 left in the first quarter. The two teams still battled about even after the following kickoff, but after LaVille punted to Glenn once again, the Falcons were forced to punt back, still unable to move the ball on the ground. This time a 15 yard personal foul penalty was tacked on the end of the play put ting the ball in Glenn territory at the 44, instead of back in LaVille territory. From here the Lancers ground it out with 11 running plays. Jeff Overholser carrying seven of the 11 times including the seven yard touchdown scamper. A good kick by Mike Kindt tied it at 7-7 with 3:40 left in the half. The Falcons were able to pick up one first down before punting the ball away late in the half and LaVille just ran the time out deep in their own territory. To start the second half, LaVille put the ball in play after receiving the kick at their own 35. They
gained three first downs, but after penetrating to the Falcon 15 yard line, were penalized a couple of times and finally punted from the Glenn 35. The bouncing punt was picked up by Sam Borton at the 3, only to the 4 before being tackled. From here it was disaster. A 12 yard rush by Searfoss picked up Glenn's first good yardage on the ground, but after another hit into the line lost one. a penalty pushed the Falcons back to their own 8 yard line. On the next play Pavey was sacked in the end zone for a safety by Kent Schafer. This made it 9-7, breaking the tie. However, the big play was just to come. On the free kick from the 20. Glenn chose to kick from placement and Roger Steals gathered a good kick in on his own 30 and outran everyone easily on a 70 yard touchdown jaunt, kickly making it 15-7 and Kindt added his second point after for the 16th point. After two more punts in the exchange of possessions. Glenn was set to punt once again in the early fourth quarter only to have a snap from center get away and the punter was tackled trying to advance the loose ball for a 10 yard loss giving LaVille possession on the Falcon 12. It took just three plays before Michael Dickey plowed over from four yards out for the score that opened a big margin. A wide kick left it 22-7, but only 8:18 remained in the game. In these last eight minutes and 18 seconds. Pavey unleashed a savage passing attack that pulled Glenn right down field for one score and almost for another. In the first set. after returning the

kick to the Glenn 35. Pavey hit five of six passes, there was one four yard run, and a LaVille face mask penalty to account for the quick score. Groves caught all but one of the passes as these two had the chemistry going between them that is so great to watch. The scoring play was a 12 yard pass to Groves and on this attempted extra point, which now loomed big. again the snap wasn't handled and a desperation attempt on a pass by Pavey fell incomplete. On the second play after an attempted onside kick was covered at the LaVille 48, a Stealy fumble was covered by Willie Hostrawser and Glenn had the ball once again. Pavey hit five of his first six attempts with a couple of short runs mixed in to move the ball to a first and goal at the 10. However, with Groves making a couple more fine catches, LaVille doubled up on him and the desparation four passes from the 10 all fell incomplete, giving LaVille the ball back to run out the clock in another good high school football game. For the game. Overholser paced the running attack of the Lancers with 99 yards on 21 carries. Searfoss did manage 35 in 12 carries, despite the fact the Falcons as a team only gathered a net three yards on the ground. Pavey threw 28 times, hit 16 for two scores and 159 yards. Brian Groves picked off nine of these passes in a complete turn-around from the victory the week before when Glenn only threw twice in the entire game. Visit Jimtown Friday
