Elsie Morris, now a resident at LaCrescent Health Care Center, in LaCrescent. Minnesota, formerly of Walkerton, has been selected as Dutchess for the LaCrescent Applefest celebration. Each year the residents and staff vote on someone as Duke and Duchess to be represented in the festival and she was so honored this year. Elsie received a crown and cape during the cornation ceremony. Monday evening. September 8. She will wear this during the Applefest Festival. The Duke and Dutchess Elsie, will attend the banquet on September 20 and ride in the parade in a convertible on Sunday. September 21. This is a big celebration in LaCrescent each fall. The parade is attended by around 50.000 persons. We are proud of Elsie's receiving this honor. For all her friends in the Walkerton area her address is LaCrescent Health Care Center. LaCrescent.

Minnesota 55947. Mrs. Alma Daube and Mrs. Burnadctte Davis returned the first part of last week from a weekend visit in LaHarpe. Illinois, with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hast, cousins of Mrs. Daube. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Snyder. North Liberty, returned home last Thursday evening from a two week vacation spent visiting their daughter and her husband, in England, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Harris. Mr. Harris is a pilot in the U. S. Air Force. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Steinke arrived home on Sunday evening from a tour of the eastern states and also to Niagra Falls and parts of Canada. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Ivo Hagenbush. There will be no special hosts for the Koontz Lake Conservation Club dinner meeting on Saturday night, but an old fashioned pot luck

dinner will be served with all the goodies. So come on out and enjoy an evening of good food and fun. Wednesday of last week. Miss Ethel Bierly and Mrs. Ima Kellogg went to North Judson to attend a Starke County Retired Teachers meeting at the home of Mrs. Lenore Cook. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Gerber spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gerber, in Muncie. It was a dual occasion, housewarming and the celebration of Janelle Gerber and her twin sister. Michelle Theobald’s birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Whitmer, of Wabash, had a birthday dinner on Sunday for their grandson, Adam Whitmer’s second birthday. Those present were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Whitmer and his sister, Natalie, of Wabash; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Pretoiues. of Urbana; his great-grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Whitmer, of North Liberty; his great aunt and uncle. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Buskirk, of Lafayette; and his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. David Blair, of Wabash. Mrs. Nora Hahn spent the weekend at Marcelles, Michigan, with her daughter, Mrs. Leota Weakly and Todd, at their cottage on the lake.
