WALKERTON TOWN BOARD MINUTES The Walkerton Town Board met on September 8. 1986 in a regular session with the following board members present: Arthur Heemer. Clifford Ward. Margaret Gaddis and Gregory Williams. James Clevenger, town attorney, and Kathryn Chripliwy, clerk-treasur-er. were also present. The minutes to preceding meeting were approve as written. OLD BUSINESS: The town attorney presented a letter from the Norfolk. Southern Railroad on a granted easement on railroad land adjacent to the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The easement carries an annual rental charge of $120.00. NEW BUSINESS: A request was made by American Riverton asking permission to have a financial institution as a second lien holder for their business. The request will have to be cleared with the Department of Commerce. A proclamation was read: PROCLAMATION WHEREAS. September 17. 1986 marks the One Hundred Ninetyninth Anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention; and WHEREAS. To accord official recognition to this memorable anniversary. and to the patriotic exercise that will form a note worthy feature of the occasion, seem fitting and proper; and WHEREAS. Public Law No 915 guarantees the issuing of a Proclamation each year by the President of the United States of American designating September 17th through the 23rd as Constitution Week. NOW. THEREFORE. 1. Gregory Williams, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Town of Walkerton in the State of Indiana, do hereby proclaim the week of September 17th through the 23rd, 1986. as Constitution Week in the Town of Walkerton, and urge all of our citizens to pay special attention during the week to our Federal Constitution and the advantages of American Citizenship. In Witness Whereof, 1 have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City to be affixed at this day in the year of our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and
Eighty-six and the Independence of the United States of America, the Two Hundred and Tenth. Clifford Ward asked that some consideration be given to the idea of penalizing the pay of those board members who miss a certain amount of meetings. After a short discussion was held Margaret Gaddis made a motion to table the idea until certain information can be gathered, Arthur Heemer seconded the motion. Geroge Pancner, an executive from Quality CATV, informed the Board that they would like to close their in town office by December 31. 1986. A telephone number would still be available for service and maintenance would remain available to the customers. Arthur Heemer made a motion to have the attorney draw up an amendment to the ordinances deleting the wording that states that the cable people have to have an in-town office in Walkerton. Margaret Gaddis seconded the motion. The amendment will be ready to be read at the September 22 meeting. Monthly reports were turned in from the Police. Fire and financial departments. Claims 988 to 1037 were accepted by a motion from Ward, seconded by Gaddis. With no further business to come before the Board with meeting adjourned on a motion from Heemer. seconded by Gaddis. TO OFFER EMT COURSE The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course will be offered at LaPorte Hospital auditorium on Tuesdays and Fridays, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., beginning October 7 through March 13, 1987. The course will consist of 123 classroom hours and 20 hours of clinical work. Lead instructor will be Dave Kaufman, paramedic and certified primary instructor. Course fee is $l5O and must be paid on the first night of class. Gass size is limited to 30 students. Applications are available in the LaPorte Hospital's nursing services office. Bloomington, Indiana, is the home of Francis Bolen and his bride, the former Vivian Shoue. They were married on Saturday. August 9, at the North Liberty Church of the Brethren, during a 6:30 p.m. candelight ceremony officiated by Rev. Larry Dentler. Solos were sung by Shirley Betz. North Liberty, and David Gieger, Columbia City. Congregational singing was led by Galen Holderread. North Liberty. A buffet was served to guests in the church fellowship hall. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Shoue, North Liberty, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Inn Bolen, Churubusco. Attendants dressed in sea green waltz length gowns were Annette Gallegos, North Liberty, sister of the bride, who served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Kim Betz, Amy Salyer and Janet Shoue. sister-in-law of the bride, all of North Liberty, and Virginia Bolen, Churusbusco, sister of the groom. Joe Bolen, San Diego, California, served his brother as best man. Groomsmen were Larry and Harry Bryant and Rick Philbee, all of Fort Wayne; and Bill Ruggles, of Guam. John and James Shoue, brothers of the bride, were ushers. Renee Gallegos, North Liberty, niece of the bride, and Scott Kime, cousin of the bride, were flower girl and ring bearer.
