Membership Night Planned By Jaycees The Lincoln Township Jaycees are planning a Membership Night, set for Wednesday, September 17, at 7:30 p.m., with a loungerie show as part of the evening's program. Anyone between the ages of 18 and 35 interested in becoming more involved in community affairs, meeting new people and having a fun night out should contact Denise Trujillo, at 586-2547, for more information. The Jaycees met on Wednesday, September 3, at the meeting hall of the Walkerton Jaycees. The ladies are considering the possibility of renovating another room in the same building for the club's meeting place. A final decision has not yet been made. Guest speaker for the evening was John Froyck, who spoke on the importance of recruiting new members and the most successful ways of doing this. We appreciated his helpful comments. On Sunday, September 14 the club will be showing a movie and serving refreshments to the residents of Miller's Merry Manor, at 2:00 p.m. On October 1 the club has planned a Powder Puff Mechanics class to be held at Orie's Garage, at 7:30 p.m. This is open to the public as well. A luggage party is set for November 5, at the home of Bev Williams. For more details on this contact Mrs. Trujillo. Cindy Briggs, chairperson of the volleyball league project, reported on possible locations for the games. Although the volleyball league is geared toward Jaycees, others are welcome to participate. More details later. The club is trying new things to encourage new membership and to make the club more worthwhile to its members. Many interesting activities have been planned. Fund raising projects are also in the works and will be announced later. BAKE-A-RAMA and CRAFT DAY SEPTEMBER 17 The annual Bake-A-Rama and Craft Hobby Day, sponsored by the St. Joseph County Extension
Homemakers, will be held on Wednesday, September 17. All non-professional bakers, 18 years or older, are encouraged to enter the following categories in the Bake-A-Rama; cakes, decorated cakes, yeast breads, quick breads, cookies and pies. Professional bakers may enter the decorated cakes category. All entries are to be taken to the Esther Singer Building, at the 4-H Fairgrounds, corner of Jackson and Ironwood Roads, between 7:30 and 9:00 a.m. on September 17, along with two copies of the recipe. Twelve mini classes in various crafts will be offered for Craft and Hobby Day, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., including a ribbon wreath, lace net darning, counted cross stitch, needlepoint, candlewicking and more. Pre-registration is required for these classes by September 10. Along with the Bake-A-Rama and Craft and Hobby Day will be a soup kitchen serving soup, drinks and baked products. Thomas presented the budget for the coming year Barbara Rohrer gave an interesting presentation on drug and alcohol abuse which could be applied to other areas of one’s life. Ellen Miller reported on the the Friends of the Fourth committee meetings. Helen Savoie, chairwoman of the 1986 annual Christmas Bazaar, announced a tentative date for the event of November 22. Mrs. Savoie made a quilt for the grand prize and other prizes will include a ceramic Christmas tree and an authentic Mexican blanket. Tickets will be available from all members in the near future. Lori Jacob will chair the annual arts and crafts show in the spring of 1987. The chapter will order children s ID tags through Lifesaver Charities to distribute locally.
