The Small Agency of Walkerton is the present insurance carrier and represents the American States Company. Ist Source Gets Approval For Acquisition Os Bank Christopher J. Murphy 111, president of Ist Source Bank, announced that the bank has received regulatory approval for the acquisition of Community State Bank, which is located in North Liberty. Indiana. This approval has been granted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the Indiana State Department of Financial Institutions. In making this announcement. Murphy noted that this acquisition furthers the overall growth strategy of the bank. “The acquisition of Community State will permit Ist Source to increase services to the residents of St. Joseph County and enable us to expand into Elkhart County,” stated Murphy. Since Community State Bank previously received approval to open a branch in Elkhart County, this approval will extend to Ist Source once the acquisition is complete. Ist Source Bank has assets of approximately $1 billion and Community State Bank lists assets of approximately S2O million. It is anticipated that the acquisition process will be completed by mid-November, 1986. Parties Select Candidates For 1986 Elections The Republican and Democrat parties each held their caucus in Walkerton last Thursday evening and selected the candidates for the two open Town Council seats. The Republicans, meeting at the Youth Building, named Gene Gerber and Phil Waldron, Sr., for the two seats in the first and second wards respectively. The Democrats, meeting just up the street at the Community Building, chose Lynn Brownlee and Greg Williams, for the first and second ward seats respectively. This will be the first time that a partial election for the Town Council has been held, the remaining three spots will be contested in the usual town election next year. All terms will now be four years, thus staggering the board so there cannot be five new board members seated at one time. This year’s election for these two seats will be part of the general election on Tuesday, November 4. STATE ROAD 104 CLOSED The Indiana Department of Highways closed a section of State Road 104 in LaPorte County, beginning Monday. September 2. That stretch of highway from its intersection with State Road 4 to U. S. 6 will be closed to traffic. The purpose of this closure is to repair the Grand Trunk Western Railroad Crossing in Stillwell. During this closure, traffic will be detoured across S. R. 4. S. R. 23 and U. S. 6. Work is expected to be completed and the road reopened by September 23, 1986. Until then, motorists should be aware that this rerouting adds 7.7 miles driving distance and make whatever changes might be necessary in their travel plans. Be a careful driver always!
