PLAN 4TH CELEBRATION IN NORTH LIBERTY Plans are underway for not only the 4th of July Celebration in North Liberty, but also North Liberty’s Sesquicentennial. A parade is planned on the afternoon of Friday, July 4, with line-up at 1:00 p.m. and the parade starting at 2:00 p.m., followed by the awarding of trophies in North Liberty Park. This year’s parade theme will be “150 Years Os Pride”. There will be concession stands in the park that afternoon with several different activities followed by a special fireworks display that evening commerating North Liberty’s Sesquicentennial. Anyone interested in entering the parade can obtain an entry form from the Community State Bank, Craft’s Liberty Drugs or in “The Independent-News” or by calling 656-8343. TRI KAPPA NEWS Highlights of the June 11 meeting of North Liberty Zeta Pi Chapter of Tri Kappa was the installation of officers for the coming year. Installed were: president, Irinda Slater; vice-president, Donna Popovic; secretary, Nancy Hawley; treasurer, Marka Jackson; and corresponding secretary, Judy Karst. Willadene Malstaff was hostess with Phyllis Thornburg and Dee Milzarek as co-hostesses. Marka Jackson gave the sunshine report and said that the chapter sent 146 all occasion cards the past year to area residents. She also reported that the planters

in downtown North Liberty have been filled with pretty flowers. Phyllis Thornburg represented the chapter at the recent Special Olympics event held in South Bend and gave her report of the volunteer work done. She stated that many volunteers will be needed for next year’s event and urged everyone to help, if at all possible. Members discussed final plans for their participation in the Potato Creek Festival, to be held August 15 and 16. They were urged to get busy with plant starts and have them ready by August first. Joyce Liggett was the recipient of the door prize. There will be no July meeting. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be August 13 at the United
