assembly. Hiler visited the school to present a flag that had flown over the Capital on April 2, 1986. He brought the flag on request from P.T.A. president Josie Snell. Fourth grade teacher, Rosana Balmer, introduced Congressman Hiler and Mrs. Snell. Congressman Hiler than presented the flag, along with a certificate, to Mrs. Snell and she, on behalf of the P.T.A., then presented the flag and certificate to Miss Balmer who represented the staff and students of Walkerton Elementary School. After the presentation, Congressman Hiler gave a short explanation as to what government is, the different branches of government, and why we have laws. He told the students that, “the government’s job is to protect its citizens in the best possible way and that is the reason laws and Executive decisions are made.” Students then got a special question and answer period with Hiler. Many questions asked were concerning the bombing of Libya, the reason President Reagan ordered the raid, why Col. Khadafy supports terrorists and the possibility of war. Other questions asked were: What does the White House look like?” “Do you like your job?” and “Where did you go to school?” After answering questions, Congressman Hiler closed by telling the students that he had attended elementary school in Walkerton, how the school had changed since he was a students, and that they should be proud and take care of their school. Students were left with a better understanding of the workings of WELL SERVICE 936-991 1 • Flint and Walling Pumps • Wall Screen!
