OBITUARIES
ROBERT (BOB) BAKER Robert Baker, 66, of Denton, Texas, died on Friday, April 18, in Cypress Springs, Texas. He was born on December 27, 1919, in Walkerton. He married Helene Lischalk, on June 1. 1936, in Oak Park. Illinois, who survives. Surviving along with his wife are three sons. Philip Baker, Denton, Texas. Robert Baker, El Paso, Texas, and Thomas Baker, Corpus Christi, Texas; two daughters, Suzanne Levi say, Denton, Texas, and Jane Baker. Dallas, Texas; two sisters. Viola Guard, Walkerton, and Betty Clark, Chula Vista, California; and one grandchild. Services were held on Monday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Denton. Texas, of which he was a member, with Father John Mitchell officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton. Texas. He was a World War 11 veteran and a fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus. He was accepted in RSVP, Friends of the Family, the Denton State School and did volunteer work at several nursing homes. Memorial contributions may be made to Denton County Friends of the Family. BERNIECE KASER Berniece Kaser, 69, of 218 South Street, LaPaz. passed away at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, in St. Joseph’s Medical Center, South Bend. She was bom on November 28, 1916, in Washburn, Tennessee, and she had lived in Marshall County for most of her life. She married Arthur Lawrence Kaser on September 29, 1934, in South Bend, who survives. Surviving along with her hus-

Perfectly ripened, pared and ready to use, canned Bartlett pears are diced, combined with cut rhubarb, then sprinkled with a mixture of sugar, flour and nutmeg. Pear Rhubarb Pie is delicious served warm and fragrant from the oven, juat as is, or topped with ice cream or whipped cream. You’ll want to prepare this delectable pie while fresh rhubarb is in the market, however frozen rhubarb can be substituted at another time of the year Versatile canned Bartlett pears are available year round. Pear Rhubarb Pie 1 can (29 oz.) Bartlett pears 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 1/2 cups fresh rhubarb, cut 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg in 1/2 inch pieces* 2 tablespoons butter or Pastry for 2 crust (9 inch) pie margarine 1 cup sugar Sugar 1/3 cup flour Vanilla ice cream (optional) Drain pears, reserving liquid for another use. Cut into bite-size chunks and toss with rhubarb. Place half of fruit in pastry lined 9 inch pie plate. Com bine sugar, flour, salt and nutmeg Sprinkle half over fruit. Add remaining fruit and top with remaining sugar mixture. Dot with butter. Place woven lattice crust over pie Seal and flute edges. Sprinkle lightly with sugar. Bake at 450* F for 10 minutes Reduce heat to 350® F and continue baking for 40 minutes Serve warm, as is, or with ice cream Makes 6 to 8 servings •Frozen cut rhubarb can be substituted

Palm Dessert Springs. California; and three brothers. Lester and Gene Dyer, both of South Bend, and Vallen Dyer, Culver. Services were held at 11:00 a. m. on Saturday in the Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, with Rev. Douglas Sprunger, of the first Baptist Church, North Liberty, officiating. Burial was in Fair Cemetery, North Liberty. GERALD D. NEIDUNGER Gerald D. Neidlinger, 70, of 1426 Ohio St., Walkerton, passed away at 6:05 p.m., on Friday, April 25, in the LaPorte Hospital. He was born on March 20, 1916, in St. Joseph County and lived all his life in the area. Surviving is a daughter, Jerri Lou Cantrell, Louisville, Kentucky; a grandson, Robert Cantrell; and two sisters, Inez and Bernice. Services were held at 11:00 a.rn. on Monday at the Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel, with Rev. Lloyd George, officiating. Burial was in Eastlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. He was retired as a machinist at the Torrington Co., South Bend. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the North Liberty American Legion Post 365. MARIE FUNKHOUSER Marie Funkhouser, 73, Rural Route 4, Box 427-A, Walkerton, passed away at 2:48 a.m., on Sunday, April 27, in St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend. She was bom on October 4, 1912, in Detroit, Michigan, and had lived in Walkerton the past 25 years coming
from Michigan City. Her first husband. Bert Brink, preceded her in death. Her second husband, Robert Funkhouser, died in 1975. Surviving is a son, Richard Brink, of Elkhart; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Charlotte Johnson, LaPorte. and Florence Corwin. Walkerton. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home, Walkerton, with Rev. Lloyd George officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. R.E.A.L. After lunch a business meeting was held discussing old and new business. It was decided to play the point system this year, also will have play of the day, chip-ins and pennies for putts. Play will be at 9:00 a.m. or 5:00 p.m. Brief plans for the Annual Ladies Open were discussed. This event will be Thursday, June 19. Some committees reported and others are making plans. Weekly play will start Tuesday, April 28, and continue on through August 26. Three new members were introduced, Beverly Schrader, Dorothy Morrie and Trudy Knapp. Friday Nite Men’s League The Friday Nite Men's League will be meeting Friday, May 2, to make plans for League play starting Friday, May 9. A clothing store in Georgia has run an ad in the same place in its local newspaper since 1889

Taylor, of Naval Air Station, Glenview, Illinois, was the subject of a letter of appreciation rewarded as follows: My family and 1 would like to extend our sincerest thanks to you and your men for all their help during the funeral of my son, Cpl. Andrew P. Gale, U.S.M.C. During our time of grief your men’s presence and conduct helped make things a little easier for us. My son Andrew was very proud to be a marine and had hopes of returning to the corps after he received a dean bill of health from the V.A.
