to Jekyll Island. Georgia, off the southeast coast of Georgia. Returning they were overnight guests of Rev. and Mrs. Clyde Wake, in Greenwood, former pastor of the Walkerton United Methodist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Ream, of Fort Wayne, were Thursday evening callers on Mr. and Mrs. Orville Klinedinst and also on Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Klinedinst. Hosts for the Koontz Lake Conservation Club dinner meeting on Saturday evening will be Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pozniak and Mrs.
Harriet Jefferies. An unusual fun day was held on Wednesday of last week when seven ladies from the surrounding area held a get-together with luncheon at the Essenhaus Restaurant, in Middlebury. These ladies are all graduates of the Class of 1948 from Walkerton High School. They were Grace Steele Bollinger, of Middlebury; Lois Daube Brown and Sylvia Shirk, South Bend; Mary Martin Stanley, Lakeville; Virginia Urbin Guttman, Wakarusa; Dorothy Kearney Cline and Patricia Burch Shafer, Walkerton. Visiting and a good meal provided the entertainment for the day. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Knowlton returned home last Friday after spending some of - the winter months in Sebring, Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gardner arrived home on Thursday of last week after spending the winter at Sanibel, Florida, where they enjoyed the beautiful weather. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ullery were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Glade Wisler, in Valparaiso. Those hospitalized include Tom Bellinger, who is in the Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis; Agnew Ludwig, in the Veterans Hospital, Indianapolis; Ethel Fields is in Memorial Hospital, South Bend; Ralph Persinger is in the LaPorte Hospital; and Dave Mellin is in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Monday evening callers of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sheneman were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stonebumer and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Pogodzinski, of near Walkerton. Mrs. Viola Barden and her mother, Mrs. Goldie Skinner, visited with Mrs. Helen Smith on Sunday afternoon, in South Bend and with Mrs. Donna Vitou, in Elkhart. They also called on Mrs. Carl Wesolek and Mr. and Mrs. Homer Ridgeway, in South Bend, on their return trip home.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy DeSimone arrived home on Saturday after spending the winter months at Fort Myers Beach. Florida. Mrs. John Matousek spend the major part of last week in Chicago visiting with her aunt. Mrs. Willard Winkle, of Rolling Meadows, Illinois, spent the weekend here with her mother. Mrs. Manford Bouse. Gladys Sheneman entertained her club on Monday afternoon, at her home. Those present were Iva Pommert, Martha McCrosky, Francis Slattery, Pearl Newcomb and Mae McDaniel. Pearl Newcomb returned to her home on Saturday after spending the winter with her daughter in Michigan. Mae McDaniel is a new neighbor of the Sheneman’s as she built a new home right next door and was a guest. Refreshments of ice cream and cake were served before the guests departed. GRADUATES FROM ACADEMY Patrolman Jeffery J. Whitmer, of Wabash Police Department, was among the 90 officers that graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, March 28, at Plainfield. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Whitmer, Wabash, and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Whitmer, North Liberty. Miss Epperson will become the bride of Ronald Burbee, Valparaiso, on May 10, at th Trinity United Methodist Church, in Hobart. KNOWLTON DISPLAYS ART Between March 15 and 29. Todd Knowlton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Knowlton, presented his senior art exhibit at Pensacola Christian College. The art display was a result of several month’s effort and was presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Bacheolor of Arts degree with a major in art. A Bible-believing, independent. Christian institution, Pensacola Christian College enrolled this past year over 1,700 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs. WINS AFGHAN The beautiful afghan, created by Esther Jackson, of Walkerton, was won by Loretta Zahrn, of Rural Route 1, Walkerton. The drawing was held at the First Presbyterian Church on Sunday, April 6. Fivehundred tickets were sold and the proceeds from the drawing went to the Sunday School of the Presbyterian Church. Elizabeth Reed and June Lind were presented with floral arrangements following the service on Sunday. They were the two persons selling the most tickets. The children of the Sunday School wish to thank Esther Jackson for providing the afghan.
