JOHN GLENN SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES The Board of Trustees of the John Glenn School Corporation met on March 26, 1986 in the library of John Glenn High School, The meeting convened at 7:30 p.m. with all members present, with the exception of Mr. Stull and Mr. Peddycord. Mr. Peddycord arrived at 7:35 p.m. The superintendent and four observers were also present at the meeting. Following a motion by Mr. Ludwig. seconded by Mrs. Beem, the Board voted four to zero to approve the minutes of the March 11, 1986 meeting. Following a motion by Mrs. Manuel, seconded by Mr. Ludwig, the Board voted five to zero to approve claims numbered 481 through 551 as presented. OLD BUSINESS A. Coop Insurance Purchasing Update: Mr. Ken Lukenbill, School Board attorney, advised the Board concerning the legality of cooperative purchasing for insurance purposes. He was directed by the Board to further investigate and to advise the superintendent regarding a cooperative. Dr. Smith advised the Board that there are 10 school corporations in this area interested in cooperative insurance purchasing. The Board expressed interest in the potential cost savings that may be realized. Further information will be brought back to the Board at a later time.

B. ISBA Regional Spring Meeting: The superintendent explained that due to a conflict of schedule with the NCA Visitation at North Liberty on April 15, Board members may attend the ISBA Region 1 Spring Meeting on April 14. The superintendent’s secretary will contact all Board members for reservations. NEW BUSINESS A. Appointments: Following a motion by Mr. Peddycord, seconded by Mr. Ludwig, the Board voted five to zero to approve the following adult school appointments: 1. Adult Credit Class Social Studies, Bruce Keiser. 2. Adult Non-Credit Class Computers, Sharon Klinedinst. 3. Adult Non-Credit Class Computers, Bruce Fleming. B. School Technology Advancement Account Loan — Computers: The superintendent explained that he has received notice from the Indiana Department of Education that there are funds remaining for the purpose of purchasing computer equipment to be used for instruction. These funds are in the form of low interest loans from the Common School Fund. If a computer equipment loan can be secured, this will assist the science and computer lab renovation project currently being planned for John Glenn High School. Following a motion by Mrs. Manuel, seconded by Mrs. Beem, the Board voted five to zero to authorize the superintendent to apply to the Indiana Department of Education for a $25.00 School Technology Advancement Account Loan
for the purpose of purchasing computers. C. Gifted/Talented Broad-Bas-ed Committee Report: Dr. Smith submitted a written report to the Board from the gifted and talented committee. He asked members of the Board to carefully review this material and the recommendations that are contained in the report. He explained that at a future Board meeting he will ask members of this committee to report further to the Board on their recommendations. D. Conference Requests: Following a motion by Mr. Ludwig, seconded by Mr. Peddycord, the Board voted five to zero to approve the following conference requests: 1. Vera Tiani, Urey Middle School, “Gifted Education”, South Bend, March 21, 1986. 2. Judy New, Walkerton Elementary School, “G/T Consultant Meeting”, Walkerton Elementary School, April 3, 1986. 3. John Thomas, John Glenn High School, “Art Teacher Seminar”, Cleveland Institute of Art, April 3-6, 1986. 4. Gordon Mosson, Larry Rans, John Glenn High School, “Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Clinic”, Indianapolis, April 11-12, 1986. 5. Gerry Brown, Urey Middle School, “Medalist Football Clinic", Notre Dame, April 4-5, 1986. E. Conference Reports: The Board accepted the following conference reports from staff members: 1. Bruce Fleming, John Glenn High School, G/T Meeting at Walkerton Elementary School. 2. Marilyn Lightfoot, Walkerton Elementary School, lAESMP Spring Meeting, IUSB. 3. Nancy Hindman and Linda Kahn, John Glenn High School, Software Preview at Elkhart Career Center. 4. Carol Wiwi, Walkerton Elementary School, "Elementary Math Visitation at Marion”. F. Financial Statement — February, 1986: The superintendent submitted the financial statement to the Board and noted that all account balances are normal for this time of year. G. GED Certificate: Following a motion by Mr. Peddycord, seconded by Mrs. Manuel, the Board voted five to zero to approve a GED Achievement Test Certificate for Sheila Fay Dickey. H. Resolution — Permission to Advertise for Temporary' Loans: The superintendent explained that for the purpose of cash flow, it will be necessary to secure a temporary loan in the amount of $300,000 for the debt service fund prior to June 30 of this year. Additionally, it may be necessary to borrow up to $ 100,000 per month for the months of April, May and June for the general fund. Both loans would be taken against tax collections which are expected no later than June 30. Following a motion by Mr. Beem. seconded by Mr. Ludwig,

I. Resignation: Following a motion by Mr. Ludwig, seconded by Mrs. Beem, the Board voted five to zero to accept the resignation of Mrs. Jill Hostetler as choir director. J. Others: 1. The superintendent noted that John Glenn High School senior, Teresa Northam, is to be congratulated for being named to the Plymouth Pilot All Area Girls Basketball Team. gymnasium roof at John Glenn High School sustained minor damage due to wind. The roof is under warranty from Slatile Roofing, who responded within a very short time to the call for help when the damage was discovered. NEXT MEETING DATE The Board will meet in regular session on April 8. 1986, at 7:30 p.m. in the library of John Glenn High School. Following the regular meeting, the Board will meet n executive session for the purpose of discussing personnel. ADJOURNMENT Following a motion by Mrs. Beem, seconded by Mr. Ludwig, the Board voted five to zero to adjourn at 8:35 p.m. The United States imports more oil from Mexico than from any other country.
