This creation consists of two round yellow cake layers separated by a rich, creamy vanilla filling with chocolate frosting spread over the top This luscious variation of the original recipe uses satinysmooth sweetened condensed milk in the custard tilling as well as m the dark, chocolate frosting The precooked blend of milk and sugar eliminates steps in cooking. This classic American dessert is said to have first been created at the Parker House Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts, but its popularity has spread throughout the country. BOSTON CREAM PIE (Makes one 9-lnch cake) 1 (9-tncb) prepared yellow 2 egg yolks cake layer, split 24 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 tablespoon comstorch % cup water * teaspoon salt 1 (14-ounce) can Eagle'S 1 (bounce) square unsweet Brand Sweetened Con- ened chocolate denied Milk (NOT evaporated milk) In small saucepan, dissolve cornstarch in water; stir in % cup sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks, 2 teaspoons vanilla and dash salt; mix well Over medium heat, cook and stir until thickened, about 10 minutes Remove from heat; cool 15 minutes Chill 15 minutes. Meanwhile, In small saucepan, combine remaining sweetened condensed milk, cholocate and dash salt. Over medium heat, cook and stir until chocolate melts and mixture thickens, about 10 minutes Remove from heat; stir in remaining 4 teaspoon vanilla. Place bottom half of cake on serving plate; spread with custard Top with top half of cake; pour frosting in center of cake; spread to edge Chill at least 2 hours before serving. Refrigerate leftovers.

FREE SCREENING CLINIC FOR CHILDREN SET FOR APRIL 9 LaPorte Hospital and the Hospital Unit of Orak Shrine Temple will conduct a free screening clinic for children with burn or orthopedic problems from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. C.S.T., Wednesday, April 9. Members of the LaPorte Hospital medical staff will conduct the examinations of children for possible admission to the Shriner's Hospital in Chicago or at the Cincinnati Shriner’s Burn Institute. Parents or guardians are asked to bring their children through LaPorte Hospital’s front entrance. Local Shriners will escort families to the lower level registration and waiting area near the examination rooms. Shriner’s Hospitals offer free care for children, infants through age 18. with congenital deformities, orthopedic injuries, burns and diseases of the bones, joints and muscles. The Shriner’s Hospitals care for children with cerebral palsy, scoliosis, spina-bifida, spinal cord injuries, and cleft palate. Severely burned children requiring either immediate acute care or reconstruction or restorative surgery and rehabilitation are also treated at Shriners Burn Institutes. Any child needing treatment for these types of medical conditions may qualify for treatment regardless of race, religion or relationship to a Shriner.
