SENIOR CITIZEN BOWLING NEWS Spring having arrived, the Senior Bowlers turned out in greater numbers this week to “battle" the pins. Encouraged by four spectators. 13 ladies and 12 gents sent the pins flying in great style for an afternoon of fun and exercise! Norma Long took top honors for the ladies high scratch game with a 154 total. Clare Martin’s 153 and June Lind's 141 gave her some competition, however. In the high handicap contest. Lou Brandenburg a 195. Mel Divine a 199, and Harold Schweder topped them all with a 207 game. Lou Brandenburg's high handicap game of 244 topped Mel Divine's 235 and Harold Schweder’s 227. There were four gents with a series total above 500. High series was rolled by Bud Weinman with a 516, followed by Mel Divine's 512, Lou Brandenburg's 509, and Marion Anderson’s 504. Good bowling

Watch for future information concerning our final bowling date. 4-H/FFA DAIRY JUDGING CONTEST The Marshall County Evaluators, a 4-H Judging team, edged out Polk Township’s 4-H Team by two points to earn top honors in the Marshall County 4-H/FFA Dairy Judging Contest held March 12. Team members, Jeff Spaid, Chad Listenberger, Kerry Eilerand Kevin Reichard combined scores for a total of 543. Polk Township’s 4-H Team, coached by Leon Verhaeghe, totaled a 541 point score. Team members are Loretta Traversa, James Schmidt, Tracy Norris and Ed Traversa. The Marshall County Evaluators are coached by Geri Newman. Plymouth High School FFA members, Tim Roahrig, Janet Greer, Tim McLochlin and Andy Crowel made up the third place team. Fourth and fifth place teams were also from Plymouth's FFA chapter. The top three teams advance to the area contest on Thursday, April 24, at Elkhart County. COOKING FOR ONE OR TWO PROGRAM The St. Joseph County Cooperative Extension Service is offering a program entitled “Cooking For One Or Two". Hints for cooking and serving small will be identified. The importance of planning meals around the basic four food groups will be discussed. A couple of dish ideas will be demonstrated and sampled. Preparing and cooking smaller portions, proper storage and substitutions will also be discussed. The program will be held April 16 at 1:00 p.m. in the Esther Singer Building at the 4-H Fairgrounds, corner of Ironwood and Jackson Roads. Jill McKowen, Extension AgentHome Economist from Koscuisko County, will be presenting the program. Pre-registration is requested and may be completed by calling the Cooperative Extension Service at 284-9604 by April 9. The program is open to the public free of charge. Lodge Hall with the Evening Star Rebekahs serving a delicious buffet featuring homemade chicken and noodles with a salad and dessert bar. Hostesses for the evening were Alice Walker, chairman, Linda Relos, Betty Wolfenbarger, Marty Malstaff, Vy Masterman, Becky Reed, Mary Ann Christensen, Jo Ellen Stevens, Sharon Klinedinst, Regina Bussie and Eleanor Ludwig. A memorial prayer was said in memory of Jeanette Guttman who recently passed away. One guest was introduced, Judy Baker, who along with Barb Burket joined the club. The secretary, Jean Cole, gave her report and the treasurer, Pauline Baughman, gave the financial report. The birthday bank was filled by Pearl Wooley and Cleo Awald. The lovely handmade pillow was won by Mrs. Wooley. Ways and means chairman, Darlene Pontius, held a ham raffle with the winner being Velma Shores. It was voted to give two scholarships of $250.00 each this year. To end the evening the lovely voice of Sharon Klinedinst was heard as she sang “She Heid Her Close" followed by all singing "How Great Thou Art". An Easter poem read by president Karen Johnson ended the evening. SENIOR CITIZENS TO MEET IN WALKERTON The Senior Citizens will meet on Monday, April 7, at 12:00 noon, at the Walkerton Community Building.
