Robert Mulligan Names 1985-86 Teacher Os Year The John Glenn School Corporation Teacher of the Year Committee is pleased to announce the selection. among four nominees, of Mr. Robert Mulligan. John Glenn High School English Department chairperson, as Corporation Teacher of the Year for 1985-86. As a result of this selection. Mr. Mulligan shall be nominated by the Corporation to the 1987 Indiana Teacher of the Year Program. Mr. Mulligan taught English, speech and drama for five years at Knox High School prior to joing the John Glenn Shool Corporation in 1968. He is a graduate of Knox High School and holds degrees in English, speech, drama, journalism and education from Indiana University. While his primary assignment has been English education, he is well known as the drama director of more than 40 local and regional productions and as a published playwright. He has been active as an adult education instructor in the school corporation and with Ancilla Domini College. As the area administrator for the American Institute for Foreign Studies, Mr. Mulligan has spent the last 17 summers conducting local high school students on tours throughout Europe. Egypt, Isreal and the Soviet Union. He also serves as a school board member for the Knox Community Schools. Other nominees included Judy Wojcik, Art Teacher at North Liberty School; Denise Sullivan, Physical Education and Health Teacher at Urey Middle School; and Carol Hockman. Resource Room Teacher at Walkerton Elementary School. Mr. Mulligan’s selection from such an outstanding group of teaching professionals underscores his reputation as a leader in the John Glenn School Community. The Teacher of the Year Committee is composed of the superintendent of schools, one member of the Board of School Trustees, one member of the John Glenn Education Association Executive Committee, one building principal, and one school patron. Nominations are solocited through the school corporation building principals and teaching staff. WALKERTON ELEMENTARY P.T.A. TO MEET The Walkerton Elementary P.T.A. will hold their March meeting on Thursday. March 20. at 7:00 p.m. A State Police officer will be the guest speaker, and he will be speaking on "Safety”, since March is safety month. This should be a very interesting meeting so we hope everyone will plan to attend. We will have free babysitting during the meeting and refreshments will be served. Hope to see you there. The first annual North Liberty Science Fair was held on March 6. in the library of North Liberty School. Forty-seven participants in grades 4-8 including Mrs. Sriver’s gifted and talented students exhibited their science projects. The projects were judged by Mr. Brent Kaufman, Dr. Kerry Knape and Mr. John Camblin. The coordination ot the tair was conducted by Mr. Fred Henderson, science teacher at North Liberty Middle School. Prizes and awards were donated by the Falcon 500 Club and the North Liberty P.T.A. A grand prize of a telescope was awarded to Josiah Klinedinst for his project on the Genetic Breeding of Dairy Goats. First place winners were Tricia Sheneman, David Karst and Weiss. These winners were given a $25.00 gift certificate. Second place winners were Ryan BETTER HOMES CLUB TO MEET MONDAY The Better Homes Extension Club will meet on Monday. March 24, at the Walkerton Community Building. The four ladies who attended the lesson, "Making Meals Ahead", will serve the club a light meal at 7:00 p.m. VOTER REGISTRATION If you are not registered to vote, you may do so at the Walkerton License Branch by March 22. NOTICE OF MEETING ’ The Walkerton Fourth of July committee will meet on Thursday, March 20, at 7:00 p.m., at the Youth Building.

SIO.OO gift certificates were awarded to these winners. The Northern Indiana Regional Science Fair was held March 15 at Stepan Center on the Notre Dame campus. Seven participants from North Liberty entered this Science Fair with over 300 other students from the northern Indiana area. All seven entrants placed with Josiah Klinedinst and Todd Weiss winning first place. Byron Craft, Tricia Sheneman and Ryan Annis were awarded second place ribbons. Mike Birk and David Karst placed third. Congratulations to ail the science students who participated in the local and regional science fairs. NOTICE The Oregon Township Senior Citizens will meet on Thursday. March 20. at 12:30 p.m., C.S.T., at the Conservation clubhouse. Bring a covered dish and your own table service. We are looking forward to seeing many sun birds from the sunny south with us. FINAL REGISTRATION North Liberty Youth League final registration will be held on Monday evening, March 24, between 6 and 9 p.m., at the VFW. 0-D Kindergarten Orientation Set For April 23rd The Oregon-Davis School plans a Kindergarten Orientation Program for April 23rd in the elementary building. Parents will be meeting in the cafeteria while preschoolers have a class in the kindergarten room. To be eligible for kindergarten, the child must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 1986, and 6 years of age or or before September 1 to enter first grade. During Roundup, parents will be signing up for a 15 minute appointment on either April 25 or 29 for a readiness screening of their child while the parent meets the nurse to review immunization. Be sure to bring your child's legal (not hospital) birth certificate, which can be obtained at the Health Department in the county in which the child was born, and also immuization records when you come in at your appointed time. Health forms will be handed out for the parents to have completed by family doctor and dentist. Indiana law requires all elementary children to be immunized against diptheria, whooping cough, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella and poliomyelitis. The morning registration will be held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday. April 23. The regular morning kindergarten class will not meet this day. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER OBSERVED LOCALLY The World Day of Prayer was held Friday, March 7 at the St. Patrick's School Hail. The St. Patrick's Women's Club was the host. Approximately 60 women representing the area churches participated in the prayer service. A welcome was given by Father Anthony Letko, pastor of St. Patrick's. Light refreshments and fellowship concluded the program. A total of $58.70 in donations was sent to the Church Women United and will help to address concerns of the CWU Peoples Platform. He weighed in at eight pounds and 10 ounces. Ray’s Super Valu Receives National Honor Ray's Super Valu store, in Walkerton, was honored this year by Progressive Grocer Magazine. Ray's was one of several Independent Grocers to be selected for the "Honor Roll of Outstanding Independent Grocers". Ray's Super Valu is owned by Ray and Kenny Chapman, of Walkerton, who received the honor for Outstanding Performance by an independent grocer. JOHN GLENN SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES The Board of Trustees of the John Glenn High School Corporation met on March 11, 1986 in the library of John Glenn High School. The meeting convened at 7:30 P.M. with all members of the Board present, with the exception of Mrs. Manuel and Mr. Peddycord. The superintendent and 14 observers were also present at the meeting. Board president Millar introduced Mr. Nilas Miller, who is an unopposed candidate for the Polk Township School Board position in the upcoming election It was also noted that Mr. Millar of Lincoln Township and Mr. Peddycord of Liberty Township have filed for reelection and are also running unopposed. Following a motion by Mr. Stull, seconded by Mr. Hostetler, the Board voted five to zero to approve the minutes of the February 25, 1986 meeting. Following a motion by Mr. Hostetler, seconded by Mrs. Beem, the Board voted five to zero to approve claims 356 through 480 as presented. OLD BUSINESS A. John Glenn High School Science/Computer Renovation: Mr. Joe Dzierla, chief arhitect for Sollitt Construbtion Company, presented a preliminary bid report to the Board. Mr. Dzierla’s report covered the renovation work in the science rooms 116, 117 and 118. He explained that the tentative schedule for bidding is to advertise bids on the 24th of March, to accept bids on the 7th of April, and to present a recommendation to the Board for awarding bids at the April 8 meeting. Following a motion by Mr. Hostetler, seconded by Mr. Ludwig, the Board voted five to zero to authorize Sollitt Construction to advertise the science renovation project as presented. The superintendent also reported that the Indiana Department of Education has issued project number 13562 for the science/computer renovation at John Glenn High School. Following a motion by Mr. Hostetler. seconded by Mr. Stull, the Board voted five to zero to authorize the superintendent to seek an additional appropriation from the cumulative building fund in the amount of SISO.(XX) for the John Glenn High School science computer renovation project.
