The Urey P.T.A. sponsored Reflections Contest was held on Monday. February 24, at Urey Middle School. Over 115 entries were judged, scored and given ribbons. Four categories were open to students: Visual Arts. Literature, Photography and Music. From these categories, nine were

chosen as winners to be sent to Indianapolis. The winners will be entered in the State Reflections Project later this Spring. Entries from all over the state will be on display at the State P.T.A. Convention in Indianapolis. The top nine winners were: Literature — Heather Gardner,

eighth grade; Paige Edison, sixth grade; Stacy Miller, sixth grade. Photography — Kim Taylor, eighth grade; Mike Kaser, eighth grade; Craig Ross, seventh grade. Visual Arts — Margaret Godwin, eighth grade; Lisa Savoie, eighth grade; Renee Spaid, eighth grade. Tim Vice, eighth grade; and Jeanine Kemp, eighth grade, won honorable mention awards in Visual Arts. All other students were awarded first, second or third place ribbons. The theme of this year’s contest was “From Liberty’s View". Congratulations to all Reflections participants in this year’s contest. Good luck to the state finalists from Urey Middle School. STATE HONORS FOR THREE J.G. STUDENTS Saturday, March 1, 14 instrumentalists competed in the ISSMA State Solo-Ensemble Contest held at Butler University, Indianapolis, from John Glenn High School. Three soloists from Glenn, Veronic Clark, flute; Lisa Smith, flute; and Connie Menges, trumpet; received Division I ratings. JAZZ BAND RECEIVES FIRST Saturday, March 8, the 17 member John Glenn High School Jazz Band participated in the ISSMA Jazz Contest. A Division I rating was received by the group. Also recognized were Mark Menges and Veronica Clark for their outstanding solo work. Upcoming performances by the Jazz Band are the Spring Concert on April 4; Penn Jazz Festival April 19; and the Fine Arts Festival April 20. INITIATED INTO SORORITY Katherine Hershberger, of Walkerton, has been initiated into the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority this semester at DePauw University. Miss Hershberger is a sophomore, a graduate of John Glenn High School and the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. G. R. Hershberger, of 126 Shamrock Street. DePauw University is a four-year liberal arts institution of 2.300 students founded by Methodists in 1837 and located in Greencastle, Indiana. The largest freshwater lake in the world—Lake Superior—is about thirty times as large as the state of Rhode Island.

Urey Middle School held its science fair on Tuesday, March 4. Winning the sixth grade category was Gale Bierly with a project entitled “How Fast Mice Learn". The winner of the seventh and eighth grade category was Scott Bostwick with “The Effect Ut Gravity On Space Marbles”. Honorable mentions go to Tim Pletcher and Tony Minder. The above students and Chad Drews will compete in the regional science fair at Notre Dame on Saturday, March 15. Special thanks go to Kay Mohler for judging the fair as well as to all the students who participate. Mr. Andy Stegemiller was in charge of this year’s science fair at Urey.
