Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Stanley Betz were Mr. and Mrs. Dane Clark and family, of Osecola; Mr. and Mrs. James Betz and family; of South Bend; and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Betz and son. Walkerton. Mrs. Don Teter, of Mishawaka, but well known in Walkerton, is a patient in St. Joseph Hospital, in Mishawaka, with pneumonia. Saturday guests of Mrs. Bertha Urbin were Mrs. John Guttman. Wakarusa; Mrs. David Yoder. Jessica and Stephanie, of Elkhart; and Bob Urbin. the occasion being Mrs. Urbin's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ryan were guests of honor on Saturday evening. February 8. in the home of William Millar. Thirty neighbors and friends enjoyed playing cards and trivia pursuit. A money tree was presented to the Ryans with a lot of green foilage on it. A lunch was served topped off with cake and ice cream. The Millars. Art Schmeltzes and Don Daubes were hosts for the evening. Grove. Illinois, was here on Wednesday to join the ladies at bridge at the home of Vee Shogren. Mrs. Smith was accompanited from Griffith by George Pfeiffer, who was glad to be home for a while after being gone for the winter. Mrs. Smith enjoyed being with her Koontz Lake friends again. The 80th birthday of Mrs. Mary Rensberger was celebrated on Sunday. February 9. with a surprise party hosted by her children and grandchildren. Those present were her son. Dale, of Texas; Linda Bridwell, of Texas; Ray Good, Elgin. Illinois; Mrs. Lyle Rensberger and son. Jeff, of Roann; Dave and Pat Rensberger and four children; Walkerton; Larry and Julia Rensberger and two children, Roann; and Cambi and Bryan Reed and son, Roann. Mrs. Rensberger was totally surprised and she received beautiful gifts alolng with a floral arrangement of crocuses. A big birthday cake and punch were enjoyed and a birthday celebration that Mary will cherish. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wentworth and daughter, of Warsaw, and Mr. Jeff Jacob, of Evanston. Illinois, were weekend guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mahlon Jacob, at Koontz Lake. This was also a birthday celebration for Mahlon Jacob. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Feece and Mr. Grant Steele, along with Mr. and Mrs. Ben Finley and son Paul, of Fish Lake, celebrated the birthdays of Ted Feece and Paul Finley with dinner in Goshen on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. William Dickson, of Glenview, Illinois, spent the weekend here with his mother, Mrs. William Dickson, Koontz Lake. On Saturday evening they were in South Bend for dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Banky. ENJOYS WEEKEND TRIP Miss Kristine Kopanski has returned from a weekend trip to New

York. She flew there as a guest of Cadet Kelly Cordell, a junior at West Point Military Academy. They attended a banquet and ball honoring what will be the graduating Class of 1987. The affair is called the “500th Night”. Cadet Cordell also took her to downtown Manhatten in the city of New York where they visited the World Trade Center, walked down South Street Seaport where tall ships were docked; they saw Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty which has half of the scaffolding removed now. She had the thrill of traveling by plane, train and the New York subway. After a very short, but enjoyable time, she has returned to continue her studies as a junior at IUSB for her double degree of music and science. Both are 1983 graduates of John Glenn High School. Mr. and Mrs. Harold L. Bell, Sr., Walkerton, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, February 16, with an open house from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., at the Walkerton Youth Building. The couple were married on February 17. 1936, in North Liberty. They have seven children, Dorothy Hyndman, Culver; Alan, North Liberty; Jean Magnuson, Ft. Myers, Florida; Harold, Jr., Mike, Theda Casteel, all of Walkerton;

celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on Friday with a family gathering. Jack and the former Bea Bittick were married on February 14, 1946, at Crown Point. and Kent, of Kitzigan, West Germany. They have 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Bell is a retired teamster and member of the Walkerton Masonic Lodge No. 619 F & AM, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of South Bend, and Walkerton Odd Fellow Lodge. They are both members of the Evening Star Rebekah Lodge and Shalom Fellowship Church. Friends and relatives are all invited to attend the open house.
