VOICE OF THE PEOPLE Organ Donor Choice Offered How often have we recently read and heard through the media of successful organ transplants? Just recently I read an interesting article concerning how long an organ can be saved after death has taken place. I started to think and then painfully remembered. Three years ago in March I had lost a sister and brother-in-law to a drunk driver. How clearly I remember the call from the coroner. The farthermost thing from my mind was on organ or cornea transplant. I was now aware. Neither my sister nor brother-in-law had designated on their driver’s license that they were organ donors. If only the coroner would have said there was a choice that we might consider. Mv next call went to my parents to inform them of the deaths. How, at this point in time, I wish I could have said, “Dad some good could come from this dreadful accident . . . could we donate any viable organs of Pat and Randy’s?” Some would have and even now might be offended, but a chance of life for someone else is a gift from God. The point of this letter is to make everyone aware that every driver’s license has, on the back, a place for anatomical gifts. It can be signed and witnessed at the license branch or done at home by family or friends. I know some may say. "Oh 1 just couldn’t do that!” That is fine because you have freedom of choice. This is your choice. lam onlv asking that people become aware that they have this choice. Through someone's death another life could be saved. Betty Hostrawser Be a careful driver always!
