JOHN GLENN SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES (continued from page 6) wig. seconded by Mr. Peddycord. to establish the administrative position of middle school/elementary school athletic director to be paid the same rate as the highest paid head coach in the middle school, the Board conducted further discussion. Following a motion by Mr. Hostetler, seconded by Mr. Peddycord, the Board voted unanimously to table the immediate previous motion until the January meeting. D. Updates: 1. John Glenn High School Computer Lab: Mr. Shuler, John Glenn High School principal, reported to the Board that the math staff is currently involved in writing a new computer curriculum. Three of the four high school math staff members will be visiting outher schools in the area to observe computer lab operations and equipment. Further. Mr. Shuler has invited representatives of various computer companies to visit the school and explain their computer lab programs. Following the compilation of all this data and adoption of the computer curriculum, the staff will recemmend to the Board equipment to be purchased for the lab. Present plans include having the Corporation maintenance and custodial staff construct counters for the new computer equipment in an existing air-con-ditioned lab room. 2. John Glenn High School Facilities Renovation: Dr. Smith submitted a letter to the Board from Dave Rogers of Sollitt Construction Company who has estimated the science renovation at approximately SIOO,OOO plus a $5,000 design fee. The Sollitt staff is currently working on preliminary designs and documents. Following additional consultation with the science staff and preparation of final recommendations, Sollitt will present plans to the Board for approval. 3. Roofing Evaluation: The superintendent also submitted a letter to the Board detailing the fall roofing evaluation of Corporation buildings. All buildings have roofing areas that are in good shape, however, there is concern about an area of approximately 25.000

square feet located at the high school. Sollitt recommends that this area be re-roofed as soon as it is financially feasible. NEW BUSINESS A. Purchases: Following a motion by Mr. Ludwig, seconded by Mr. Peddycord. the Board voted unanimously to authorize the purchase of a maintenance van from Mahoney-Mann of Walkerton for $17,474 as quoted on the Corporation specifications. Following a discussion of Indiana School Boards Association electronic mail equipment, the Board decided to defer a decision on whether to purchase this equipment until receiving further information at the next meeting. Following a motion by Mr. Hostetler. seconded by Mrs. Beem, the Board voted unanimously to authorize the purchase of a Canon ( NP27OF copier to be used in the central office.

B. Proposed Amendments to Board Policy — First Reading: The Board heard a first reading of the following suggested changes in Board policy: 1. BP-1130.5 — Make Up Days — Due to Emergency Closings of School — Addition. 2. BP-6220 — Promotion of Students — Amendment. 3. BP-6260 — Enrolling Students From Non-Accredited Schools — Addition. Mr. Peddycord suggested that the superintendent check the wording of each policy with the National School Boards Association policy manual and report to the Board at the next reading in January. Action on all three amendments can be expected at that time. C. Teacher Request for NonPaid Leave: Following a motion by Mrs. Beem. seconded by Mr. Ludwig, the Board voted unanimously to allow the request of
