first president of the LaPorte County Home Demonstration Clubs when it was organized in 1924. and was also the first local president. In her presentation, she explained how a group of women began meeting during World War 1 to knit and make bandages for the war effort. From this group, which often met at the home of Mrs. Place they became affiliated with the Purdue University sponsored Home Demonstration Club program. Kathryn had on display 50 years of club program books and news-

paper clippings which she had collected. It was a most interesting program. Special guests included Kathy M. Butwin, LaPorte County Extension Agent. Home Economist; Audrey Zila, county council president; Gertrude Thomas, county vice president; and Maxine Spenner, immediate past county president. A delightful musical program was provided by a Fish Lake trio including Violet Wolff, Maxine Worthington and Ardene Norris. Group singing of Christmas carols was also enjoyed. The program was opened with a Christmas poem by committee chairman, Marthe Malstaff. She was assisted by Annette Hesters, who served punch and cookies to the guests as they arrived; and Freida Myers collected gifts for the Christmas exchange. Ruth Snodgrass was also on the committee. Esther Kaufman offered the table prayere before dinner Tables were festive in a Christmas motif. Martha Mull presided at the meeting and announced the next meeting will not be until February. Celebrating birthdays were Ruth Dreessen and Ruth Snodgrass. Table prizes were awarded Mrs. Dreessen. Mrs. Butwin, Mrs. Place and Mrs. Mull. Be a careful driver always!
