Maj. Kenneth Dixon, son of Eugene and Shirley Dixon, of Rural Route 3, Box 354, Koontz Lake. Walkerton, has been nominated by the U. S. Marine Corps as a candidate for the NASA Astronaut program. A 1967 graduate of Oregon-Davis High School, Major Dixon enlisted in the USMC in 1970, received a B.S. in Physics from Auburn University, and was commissioned in the Marine Corps in March, 1975. Upon completion of flight school in December 1976, he was assigned to an operational squadron, during which time he served two tours in the Far East.

Maj. Dixon earned his Masters in Electrical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate school in June, 1983 and is currently assigned to HQMC in Washington. D.C. “This is like a dream come true ..." "Ever since 1 was a kid I was always fascinated about space.“ said Maj. Dixon. “After I became a Marine Corps aviator and received a master's degree in electrical engineering. I felt closer to my goal." From here his package will be sent to NASA where it will be screened and they will narrow down the field by conducting personal interviews. If selected Dixon
will go through a year at the Astronaut School, in Houston, and then spend between three to seven years as an astronaut. Dixon and his wife. Jan. have a four year old son, Alex. In his off-duty time he enjoys tennis, squash and running. He ran in the Marine Corps Marathon in November with a time of 3:29.44. Glenn To Meet Triton In First Round Os Tourney The 1985 Culver Holiday Tourney, of which John Glenn is the defending champion, will be held on three nights, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, December 18, 19 and 20. The Falcons will have Triton as a first round opponent. On Wednesday night, action will kick-off at Triton High School with the B-Teams playing. At 6:30 p.m., Argos and Culver will meet with Glenn and Triton in the second game. On Thursday night, at Culver, the varsities will swing into action with Argos and Culver meeting in the 6:30 game. Glenn and Triton will square off at approximately 8:00 p.m. Friday night is triple-header night. The Junior Varsity winners of Wednesday night will be facing each other at 5:00 p.m. at Culver. At 6:30 the two varsity losers will play the consolation game with the championship contest scheduled for approximately 8:00 p.m. Tickets will be on sale at John Glenn High School for the tourney prior to the start of the meet. A ticket for the entire tourney (including the B-Team action at Triton) is $4.00. Single session tickets for the varsity action at Culver each night will be $2.50. At this time, Triton and Culver
