to fall behind on a half-court shot by Brian Witkowski at the halftime buzzer to take a 30-29 lead. Thev then took complete charge in the second half with more intensity and confidence and ran away to a 70-49 victory in a Northern State Conference game. Glenn slipped to 2-3 with the loss. 1-1 in conference play, while New Prairie picked up their first win of the season and first in conference play. The Cougars drew first blood in the game and took a 4-0 lead on baskets by the sophomore Witkowski from medium range and

then a lay-in. Wes Pavey got Glenn on the board with a shot from the right corner and then he hit a pair of free throws to knot the score at 4 Troy Skiles was next hitting al4 footer from the side and Pavey and Chris Savoie made it 10 straight points with baskets to make it 10-4. Witkowski and Tom Olson followed with baskets, but the Falcons then forged ahead to a 14-8 first quarter lead, Pavey accounting for eight of the 14. The second quarter found the Cougars falling behind by 8 again before starting a string that gave them the momentum they maintained the rest of the game. Pavey and Brian Groves each scored from under to make it 18-10 before the Cougars caught fire. Judd Rose broke the slump and Washburn then hit two successive baskets to get the Cougars within two, 18-16. The Falcons managed to hang onto the lead for a little longer until Dan Adnson broke a 24 all tie to give the Cougars a lead again, only to have the Falcons move ahead 29-28 before the halftime half-court shot of Witkowski. The hosts just took charge of the game in the second half. They got two fast baskets early at the start and never lost control. From this lead, they not only continued the offensive intensity needed, but their defense was also holding the Falcons pretty well at bay. By the end of the third quarter, it was

52-39 with the hot Witkowski continuing a super effort with four more baskets while Olson added three in the third period surge. This carried right on over into the final stanza as it became evident that the Cougars weren’t going to let this one get away. In racing to the 21 point victory, the winners had good balance and played a good team game. Witkowski had 26 points for the night, 12 of 15 from the floor and he hit both of his free throws. He had double figure help from Olson with 14 while eight Cougars in all shared their points. Pavey again was the Falcons leading scorer, getting 12 on four baskets and four free throws, but he had 10 of these by halftime. Skiles and Scott Rizek hit double digits with 11 and 10 respectively. B-Team Loses A Squeaker The Glenn B-Team lost a close game, 46-44, to the Cougar reserves in the preliminary game.
