MAIL FOR TOTS PROGRAM The world can be a lonely place for a seriously ill person, young or old, especially around the holidaytime. But for some 40 youngsters across this great country of ours who are confined to hospitals and very seriously ill, this may be the youngsters' last Christmas, a special brand of TLC can be shared by sending letters or that left over Christmas card. To obtain a list of names that you could cheer, write to Mail For Tots, 25 New Chardon St., P.O. Box 8699, Boston. Massachuesetts 02114. A letter or card from a caring stranger brightens up their day. Mail For Tots began with Edmund Burns after reading about a four year old girl dying of cancer. He visited with her and soon others joined in sending cards and letters. By 1977 Mail For Tots was an official non-profit organization, sending cheery greetings to bedridden children ages 3 to 16. Burns sends newsletters to supporters of the program and each one contains a list of children who need mail . . . and names of those who have died.
