Tressmer Glenn Scores First Win; Top Cavaliers 74-53 The John Glenn Falcons got on the winning side of the ledger on Friday night with an offensive display that buried a Culver Cavalier team 74-53. Both teams had suffered hard from graduation last year and both were winless going into this game. However, it didn’t take long for the Falcons to show that they were the better ball club on the floor Friday night. The win was their first in three starts and was also a victory in Northern State Conference play. Culver is 0-3 after the loss. The Cavaliers scored first as Craig Hopple tallied on the front end of a fast break after just 12 seconds had passed. However, well over a minute passed before Glenn scored their first points, but well over five minutes passed before the visitors from Culver were to score again. Wes Pavey broke the ice for the Falcons with a nine footer at the 6:25 mark. He then added a pair of free throws and another basket before Troy Skiles hit a 10 footer and one of two from the line. It was then Brian Ruff with a short baseline shot, Pavey with two more free throws and Ruff with two charity tosses to make it 15-2 before the husky Gene Baker hit a short baseline shot for Culver to break the long drought and string of 15 points for Glenn. From here the Falcons moved to a 24-9 advantage after one quarter. Culver did score the first two baskets of the second quarter and after a pair of Skiles free throws, a three-point play by Ryan Reinholt pulled the Cavs to within 10. However, this was as close as they were to get as Ruff hit first from under and then Roger Spier came off the bench to score 10 points in less than three minutes to spark Glenn to a 46-26 halftime lead. The third quarter was a strange one scoring wise as some rather loose play was displayed by both teams in streaks in this stanza. The Falcons couldn't get untracked early and in the first four and a half minutes Culver did all the scoring, three baskets and three free throws for nine points, but then with 3:06 left in the quarter, Chris Savoie broke the long dry spell for the Falcons with a 14 footer and Glenn went on to score the last 10 points of the quarter, increasing their lead by another point to 56-35 after three. This string finished any thoughts the Cavaliers might have had about getting back in the game as the fourth period was played even with a lot of players seeing action as they battled back and forth to the final 74-53 margin.

For Glenn, good balance was again displayed, only this time with more points than in the first two games. Pavey and Spier each totaled 18 with Scott Rizek getting 12 coming off the bench. In all, nine of the 10 boys shared the points for coach Gordon Mosson’s crew. Culver was led by Ryan Reinholt and John Zehner with 14 and 11 respectively. Glenn Beet Fall Again The Glenn B-team fell to Culver’s reserves by a score of 37-27 in the preliminary contest. tally ill patients who will be institutionalized this Christmas. “So that these less fortunate may also enjoy the holiday, we ask that our Hoosier friends participate in the Mental Health Association Christmas Gift Lift", said James M. Rogers, vice president of public relation’s for Hook’s. All Hook’s and Supeßx Drug Stores in Indiana are serving as collection points for gifts for the annual drive. In addition to the collection boxes in each store, there are brochures which list suggested gift items for the patients. The Mental Health Association asks that donated items be new and left unwrapped; volunteers will wrap the items before giving them to the patients. The Association’s goal is to give two gifts to each individual for Christmas. With Hook’s help for the last two Gift Lifts, they have been able to meet or exceed their quota in each county. Any gifts left over are saved and given to patients at birthdays or other special occasions. For All Your PARTY SUPPLIES HATS NOISEMAKERS BALLOONS ere.
