South Central Topples Glenn 56 - 45 Saturday A good zone defense and the use of a fast break when available, powered the South Central Satellites to a 56-45 win over the John Glenn Falcons Saturday night. The Falcons lost their second game in two nights and second of the young season in this game which coach Gordon Mosson felt his team did not play as well as they should have. The early game was close, with the scoring not going very fast due to Glenn’s lack of attacking the South Central zone defense. The Satellites managed only a single point lead after the first quarter as the eight minutes were close all the way. It was 11-10 after one. The host team began to open a little margin in the second stanza. Despite getting two starters, center Brett Wescher and Curt Wall in a little early foul trouble, the zone defense and the use of the running game when available, found Michael Eaton matching the entire Falcon second quarter offensive output with eight points to lead the Satellites to a 25-18 halftime lead.

Glenn came out a little more prepared in the second half. With Wes Pavey, Troy Skiles and Brian Ruff leading the way, the Falcons got right back into the thick of things when they cut the deficit to 33-29 a little more than half way through the third quarter. However, another burst by the Satellites found them outscoring the Falcons 9 to 5 in the closing minutes of the stanza to move back to a comfortable lead, 42-34 after three. The Falcons just didn’t attack the South Central 3-2 zone defense well enough to make up the slack. The shot selection against the zone wasn’t the best and the Falcons could only manage to score 14 baskets in the entire game, but did use the free throw line to their advantage to stay within gunshot. It was a 14-11 margin for the winners in the last quarter that determined the final score of 56-45. Pavey led the Falcons for the second straight night with 16 points on six baskets and four of four from the free throw line. He had nine point help from both Ruff and Skiles in this relatively low scoring game. Glenn did connect on 17 of 20 from the free throw line, but were outshot 24-14 from the floor by South Central. Eaton, who was the big gun in the second quarter.

led the team for the night with 14 points while Shawn Winters and Weschere had 12 and 11 respectively.
