20 Years For North Liberty First Baptist Church The First Baptist Church of North Liberty will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this Sunday. Special plans are being made for this day. On November 7, 1965. a group of people met for their first Sunday Service at the old Community Building in North Liberty. Rev. Walt Claeys was the first pastor of the congregation and under his leadership the church was given a great start. Within one year, the church grew to the point that a larger building had to be built. During the four year stay of the second pastor. Rev. Russ Schelling. much was accomplished. He had an unusually successful ministry with the youth. The church

continued to grow quickly, and a major addition to the building was constructed. Under the ministry of Rev. Kenneth Corbett, a strong emphasis was placed on personal evangelism and Bible memory. Many of the youth attended Christian colleges, and the bus ministry was continued. The indebtedness on the church properties was mostly paid when after ten years he moved to another area. First Baptist Church is continuing to grow’ under the leadership of Rev. Doug Sprunger. The church provides a family oriented. Chirst honoring ministry with Sunday School for all ages at 9:30 a.m., a Worship Service and Children's Church at 10:30 a.m., and a Sunday evening service at 7:30 p.m. On Wednesday evenings, the church provides the Awana Clubs for children in grades K-6 and a Bible study for the adults.

Participating in the safety project were North Liberty merchants Bob s Country Store, Community State Bank. Craft's Liberty Drugs, Harvey’s Dime Store, Lane's One Stop, Main Street Movie Review and Wilcox Supermarket. Members of the community purchased the coupons from the merchants and gave them out as Halloween treats to the children. It is 261 degrees Farenheit below zero on the planet Saturn.
