Martha Truax To Celebrate 90th Birthday Martha Ann Truax will be celebrating her 90th birthday on Monday, November 18. She was born in Starke County, November 18, 1895, to William A. and Bertha (Peterson) Burger and lived in the Wyatt area for many years. She moved to Mishawaka when she married Rollo R Truax, on May 31. 1913. In 1925 they moved to a small farm on Tyler Road, near Walkerton.

f/I • A 1 c ‘ k 1 . After the death of her husband in May, 1946, Martha went to work at Wilson Bros, shirt factory, in South Bend, for approximately 10 years. She stayed active in her home until she had a severe stroke in 1978. She then went to live with her daughter on Redwood Road. Mrs. Truax has two sons, Harry and Robert, both of Rural Route 1. Walkerton, and one daughter, Eva Dean Platz. One son. Joseph, passed away in infancy. She has five grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren. most of whom are in the Walkerton area, one family in Elkhart and one in San Antonio, Texas. She also has one living
sister, Edith Wickizer, Mishawaka. Even though she is confined to a wheelchair. Martha enjoys riding in the car. She spends much of her time reading and is a faithful fan of “Dallas". Martha has been an active member of the Pine Creek ( hurch of the Brethren for many years although now she cannot take an active part in the activities, she still wants to attend church on Sunday mornings. She enjoys cards and letters very much and would like to hear from her friends. Her address is Rural Route 1. Box 189, Walkerton. You are also welcome to visit with her at home. NIPSCO OFFERS LOW INTEREST WEATHERIZATION LOANS Northern Indiana Public Service Comapny continues to offer lowinterest loans to help property owners weatherize their homes. The program — available to qualifying customers — provides loans from S2OO to $1,500 at 6 percent interest to help homeowners buy and install insulation, solar heating and cooling systems, weatherstripping and other conservation devices designed to cut electric or gas use. Payment periods range from 6 to 36 months. According to Gregory J. Wilkins, NIPSCO director of division operations, "Our weatherization loan program is aimed at holding down the cost of energy in the simplest, most direct manner — through conservation. Adequate insulation goes a long way toward controlling
energy costs and our weatherization loan program helps our customers take steps necessary to conserve energy in the home". Among those items covered under the program are: — Ceiling, wall, floor, ducts, pipe and water heater insulation; — Interior and exterior caulking; — Weatherstripping; — Storm and/or thermal window installation; — Heat reflection and heat absorving window and door materials; — Clock thermostats — Passive solar space heating and cooling systems. Single family houses, duplexes, triplexes or four-family residences heated by natural gas or electricity, or using electric air conditioning supplied by NIPSCO. qualify for the interest weatherization loan. "To make sure that customers receive the most value for their conservation dollar NIPSCO will require each participant to have an energy audit of their home as part of the low-interest loan program". Wilkins said. "The audit — which uncoveres every aspect of energy waste win a home cost $15.00 — will pinpoint potential savings areas to customers. NIPSCO will also supply an authorized master list of qualified installers for those individuals who wish to contract out the work. NIPSCO will inspect the work performed by the homeowner, or the contractor hired to do the work.

The inspection will be completed by NIPSCO engineers free of charge. Details about the loan program and application can be obtained at the local NIPSCO customer service office, Wilkins said. "We hope that our customers take advantage of this offer to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and control costs", he said. Since the loan program was established in July 1984. $830,775 in loans has been made to 770 customers. Wilkins said. ATHLETIC BOOSTERS CHANGE MEETING The John Glenn Athletic Boosters meeting has been changed to Tuesday. November 19. It will be held at Urey Middle School due to the school board meeting at North Liberty. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will feature reports on membership and the wrestling donation. Final plans and preparations will be made for selling concessions during the home basketball games. We support athletics at all levels in the school corporation. Come and help with your ideas and support. NORTH LIBERTY TO CHECK ALL WATER METERS The North Liberty Water Works personnel will begin calibrating and checking all water meters in the system. Letters will be sent to notify homeowners of the schedule.
