Approximately 20 boys and girls from the neighborhood of Mr. and Mrs. Dirk Pletcher were entertained on Saturday with roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over a bon fire. Assisting the Pletchers were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Cripe. Mrs. Fred Schultz and son, Kirk, of Munster, spent Saturday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith, at Koontz Lake, helping the Smith’s getting things around the house ready for winter. Mr. and Mrs. Roman Brehm were in Chicago Ridge, Illinois, last week for a few days with their son, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Brehm and family. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Keeling were in Elkhart on Sunday to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Steele. Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ullery were in Knox to spend the day with his sister. Mrs. Florence Anderson. Mr. Milner Capes, Mr. and Mrs. William Bacewic and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Smith attended the funeral of Mrs. Lenore (Capes) Rush, on Tuesday, October 22, in Sturgeon, Missouri. October 20, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gregg Gillies and family for the fourth birthday of Sarah Gillies. Seventeen members of the Presbyterian Church Fellowship Sunday School Class, Walkerton, went to the Holiday Inn, Plymouth, on October 20, for brunch and then to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lowry for dessert which was enjoyed by all. Mrs. J. C. Milner had callers most of last weekend to help her celebrate her 101st birthday, October 19. She also received a lot of flowers, telephone calls and cards. The week of October 7 six ladies of Koontz Lake toured in Wisconsin. They went to the town of New Gaius to Swiss Chalet to see the famous House on the Rock, which they all enjoyed. Making the tour were Marg Morrey, Selma Pry, Fran Sohn, Mary Steinhart, Florence Vische and Merle Bruesch. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Gardner, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Moore and family, Plymouth; Mr and Mrs. Tom Gardner and family, Mr. and Mrs. David Hostetler and daughter, Tyner; Mr. and Mrs. Rick Maher and son, Mrs. Viola Barden and Mrs. Goldie Skinner were the guests for a birthday party given for Nicole Barden on Sunday, October 20, in the home of her parents, Danny and Doris Barden with her brother, Adam, and sister, Theresa, helping her open her gifts. The birthday of Mrs. Leigh Roy Hahn was celebraited on Friday, October 18, at Jenny's Restaurant, South Bend, with Leigh Roy Hahn, Mrs. Goldie Skinner, Helen Smith, South Bend, and Mr. and Mrs. Herald Hostetler present. returned home on Friday from a trip to Detroit, Michigan, where she visited with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Shogren. While in Detroit she enjoyed several side trips which were very interesting including Frankenmuth, where the beautiful Christmas displays and decorations are. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ullery and Lloyd Lemert were in Ligionier on Sunday to see the Pumpkin Fantasy which is so widely advertised on television and they were very much amazed as to what can be done with decorating pumpkins and how beautiful they look. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Webster will serve as hosts for the Koontz Lake Conservation Club on Saturday evening at the club house, beginning at 5:00 p.m. C.S.T. Mr. and Mrs. Clell Fouts called on Mr. Harold Rust, at Greenfield, on Tuesday of last week and on Saturday evening they visited with Mr. and Mrs. John Scaraborough and daughter, in Union Mills. friends. Mr. and Mrs. Myron Mullet spent four days last week with Mr. and Mrs. William Nesbitt and family, in O’Fallon, Illinois. They visited with Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Roberts, at Clinton, Illinois, and then spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Greg Ramer and family, in Utica, Illinois. Before returning home they also visited with Mrs. Helena Rosengard, in Hammond. CELEBRATES 90TH BIRTHDAY A family dinner and reception was held at St. Paul’s Retirement Center, honoring Mamie B. Jones’ 90th birthday. Those attending included her children: Dr. and Mrs. Don Jones, Westminster, Maryland; Mr. and Mrs. Don Splinter, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; and Mr. and Mrs. Travis C. Jones and Mr. and Mrs. John S. Priester, of North Liberty.
