Rochester Tops Folcons 16-0 (continued from page 1) and goal from the 4 yard line. A handoff to Banner up the middle found the senior taliback diving for what appeared to be a touchdown. However, no official signaled anything and they had a discussion before ever spotting the ball and then they placed it at the one inch line. Bang, half over. Had the officials ruled that possibly Banner's knees touched before the ball crossed the plane of the goal line, they would have had to spot the ball three-quarters or a vard

or a yard short, but when they didn't do that and placed the ball on the one inch line, there was no way the call could have been right as the ball broke the plane of the goal line. At any rate, it was scoreless at halftime with Glenn dominating the play, putting the ball in play 31 times to Rochester’s 14 and gaining 103 yards and seven first downs to Rochester’s 42 and three first downs. The second half provided more oddities. At no time in their nine possessions in this half did Rochester ever run more than four plays at a time, they gained no first downs, but took advantage of the opportunities that existed and scored the

game’s only points. Glenn received the kick and on the second play Banner fumbled and Rochester’s Matt Bryant recovered the loose ball. On the next play, quarterback Chris Smith bobbled the ball and Shawn Groves got it back for Glenn. However, for the third play in a row, another fumble, this one by Searfoss, found the ball changing hands as Troy Boyd was on the ball for the Zebras. From here they ran three plays, suffered one penalty and punted. This punt again wasn’t Fielded and rolled for 53 yards putting the Falcons in a real hole at their own one yard line. After gaining only two yards in two carries, a quick kick got the ball out of trouble but gave Rochester great field position. They also were unable to move the ball and punted it back, this one putting Glenn back at their own six yard line. Two running plays netted five yards but Pavey was sacked again trying to pass and it was fourth and 12 from the four yard line when a whole host of Zebras broke through the line on Banner’s punt and it appeared that Pat Mesecar was the one to block it and it rolled out of the end zone for a safety and a 2-0 Rochester lead. Following the free kick and return, Rochester put the ball in

play at their own 47 and on the first play Walker gained 6 yards. Steve Bryant then found a hole in the Glenn line and broke free and went 47 yards for a touchdown, this coming with 1:23 left in the third quarter, an even minute after the safety. Corey Kelly kicked the extra point and it was 9-0. The Falcons had the ball five more times in the game but three pass interceptions, one lost fumble and a punt turned the ball over on each occasion. Rochester, also unable to sustain a drive, punted three times themselves and on a possession in the final minute of the game, broke Walker for a 50 yard touchdown run against a mentally beaten Falcon defense. This, with Kelly’s kick, set the final score. For the game, Banner had 88 yards on 25 carries and Searfoss ran for 81 yards in 12 tries. The passing game had seven completions but for only 45 yards as a couple of passes were for no gain or losses. For Rochester their sophomore tailback, Walker, gained 89 yards on 17 carries thanks to the big 50 yarder very late in the game. Bryant gained 65 yards in six carries which included the big 47 yard run for a score. Glenn completely shut down Rochester’s passing game, with two completions

losing two yards for the game. It was the opportunities they took ad vantage of however, that moved them to second round play in the sectional while Glenn can onl\ "wait until next year".
