Rochester Tops Falcons 16*0 In Football Sectional John Glenn’s Falcons dominated the game in many ways Friday night but the Rochester Zebras were the opportunists and took advantage of several situations to take a 16-0 victory in the sectional football game played Friday night. Glenn hosted the first round game and on a beautiful football evening, had their smallest turnout of the year, a disappointment especially after the Falcons had won three straight games to even their record at 4-4 going into the sectional play. The Falcons were victims of their own mistakes, turning the ball over six times during the game, and also victims of a judgement call on the last play of the half that could easily have given them a six or seven point lead at the main intermission. However, the breaks didn't go their way, but they outplayed their opponents in almost every aspect of the game except the big play, which turned it around for the Zebras. With the loss, Glenn ends its first season under head coach Dennis Rippy 4-5 and certainly throughout the course of the season showed a lot of improvement, spirit and good football. The Zebras advance on to host Cass in the second sectional round this Friday. JG Statistic* R 12 First Downs 3 150 Rushing 165 45 Passing - 2 11 Passes Attempted 7 7 Passes Completed 2 3 Had Intercepted 0 2 Return Yards 67 5 Punts 7 20‘/j Average Yards 34 4 Fumbles 2 3 Fumbles Lost 2 56 Yards Penalized 45 60 Offensive Plays 40 The game started very well for Glenn as they kicked off to the visitors and on the first play, Sam Borton recovered a Tim Walker fumble giving the ball to the Falcons first and 10 at the Rochester 45 yard line. However, after gaining five on a Wes Pavey to Troy Skiles pass and nothing on a run by Mike Banner, Pavey was sacked and lost 11 yards forcing a punt which Rochester took over on their own 18 yard line. The Zebras quickly gained two first downs, the first on a 10 yard burst by Walker and the second on a Glenn personal foul penalty of 15 yards. However, the defense then stiffened and held the Zebras forcing a punt which rolled dead at the Falcon 15. Glenn picked up three first downs as Banner and Dave Searfoss were running behind some good blocking for good yardage. It was another sack that stopped the drive as Pavey was creamed on the first play of the second quarter forcing another punt which was short and Rochester took over on their own 24. After one first down, a punt by Rochester was not fielded by Glenn and the ball rolled and was downed on the Falcon 15 yard line. After another Glenn penalty put them back to the seven, they started a long drive that took 15 plays and one Rochester penalty and ground it out right down field to a first and 10 at the 10 with time now a big factor. Two short plunges and a four yard pass from Pavey to Searfoss made it fourth (continued on page 12)

Parent/Teacher Conferences In John Glenn Schools The John Glenn High School teachers and administrators are personally inviting all parents to attend this year’s edition of our Parent-Teacher Conferences. The date set aside for the conferences is Monday, November 4. from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. We feel it is very important for you to have the opportunity to come in and discuss your children with our teachers in order to support and encourage their academic progress. Your young people need to see that you really care about their development socially, emotionally and intellectually. At these conferences. parents can find out what problems in learning may exist and be advised as to what steps to take to work cooperatively with the school for the betterment of the student. When the school and the home work together, positive expectations may be achieved. Unfortunately, so many times the parents that teachers need to talk to do not come in to the school. We can always count on the “good students” parents to show up. While we are very pleased that the “good students” parents show up, we want and need to talk to the parents of “struggling students”. We want to strongly encourage all parents to come to the conferences. You are important to the growth and development and success of these young people. Mike Shuler, principal John Glenn High School NOTE: Any parents wanting to see the following teachers must see them from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.: Mr. Hostrawser, Mr. Rippy, Mrs. Pearish, Mrs. Osowski and Mr. Kickbush.
