from behind for the second time in this game and let them remain undefeated with a 5-0 record for 1985. Glenn slipped to 1-4. but continue to play some good and interesting football. school football teams. Sometimes it is an emotional lift and others there seems to be a letdown as too many activities before seem to take something away from the play. In this case, it was the prior. The Falcons came out ready to do battle against their unbeaten opponents and did so right away. Receiving the opening kickoff. Mike Banner streaked back to the Falcon 49 yard line where it was first and 10. It took just seven rushing plays, with Banner ripping off runs of 12. 8, 17, 2 and 4 before he scored on the final four yard run. Dave Rupel kicked the extra point and after just less than four minutes had passed, Glenn was in front 7-0. Both teams showed the ability to move the ball somewhat. The Satellites picked up a couple of first downs before Wes Pavey intercepted a pass to end a drive at Glenn’s 17. The Falcons got one more first down, but then were forced to punt the ball away. On the first play of the second quarter the punt w as downed at the South Central 38 yard line where the visitors put it in play first and ten. After picking up one first down and not doing much in their second series, the Satellites had a third and 11 from their own 48 when Eaton hit Vernon Sims with a 33 yard bomb, to make it first and 10, now at the Glenn 19. Two rushes pushed it to a first and goal at the 7 before Sims then broke through the line for the touchdown scamper. This drive took nine plays and covered 62 yards. The Satellites then went for two points and Eaton hit Curt Wall for the two point conversion, making it 8-7 South Central with 7:48 left in the half. Glenn picked up a couple more first downs on their next two possessions, but once turned the ball over on downs and the other time Pavey was intercepted by ELaton. However. Chuck Klockow returned the favor the next play, picking off an Eaton pass and Glenn killed the remaining short time before halftime, leaving the score 8-7. The second half started with the Satellites getting possession at their own 38. They picked up two first downs, the second on a fine 40 yard run by Brian Satoski, putting the ball deep in Glenn territory at the 11. However, after two runs only picked up six yards, two passes fell incomplete and Glenn took over at their own 5 yard line. From this point the Falcons put on their longest sustained drive of the year. Getting one first down on the ground. Pavey then hit Rupel for 26 yards. Jack Godwin for 24 and Glenn had the ball at the SC 34.Tw0 runs netted 4 yards, a pass was incomplete and then on fourth and 6 from the 30. Pavey hit Banner with a swing pass coming out of the backfield and the fleet tailback tightroped the left sideline getting past about three defenders to make it all the way into the end zone. A high snap caused a little delay in spotting the ball, and consequently the extra point was missed, but Glenn had regained the lead 13-8 with 2:30 left in quarter number three. The Satellites then went to the ground and picked up a couple of first downs after a 26 yard kickoff return by Sims had Glenn flagged for 15 more for a personal foul, giving South Central excellent field position. After the tw'o first downs and having a third and goal from the four, Shawn Groves picked off another Eaton pass right over the middle and managed to get it back to the 7 yard line, stopping the drive. Glenn moved to one first down before being forced to punt and South Central took over at their own 48 after a short punt return. They started with just under six minutes left on the clock and worked hard on the ground to pick up a couple of first downs, taking one timeout on the way. With a first and 10 at the 26, ELaton was
sm< ared by Klockow and Eaton then had an incomplete pass and a short one getting the ball back to the 29. This made it fourth and 13, 1:32 showed on the clock and by now South Central was out of timeouts. However, Delgado slipped behind the defenders and made a nice diving catch of an Eaton pass that rewrote the outcome of the game. A pass for two points failed, but the 14-13 lead was on the board for the Satellites. Glenn didn’t give up. After a short kickoff return of a bouncing kick. Banner tore loose on a first and 10 from the 34 and picked up 25 big yards. Then a short pass from Pavey to Godwin picked up three, but Glenn was forced to go downfield more and after Pavey was smeared for a nine yard loss, he lofted one deep that was intercepted by Eaton at the 14 yard line. It took just one play of falling on the ball to end the game, a heartbreaking 14-13 homecoming loss for the Falcons. Banner had another fine game, rushing for 116 yards in 25 carries and he scored both touchdowns, one on a run and the other on the 30 pass and run play. It is important for Glenn to get the ball into Banner’s hands especially in the more open field. However, opponents know this as well and plan their
