Mr. and Mrs. John (Mae) Bowers, 812 N. 17th Dr., Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, formerly of Walkerton, will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on Saturday, August 17, from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., at the Scandia Supper Gub, U. S. 57 & 42, 2 miles north of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, with a dance featuring Jerry Voelker & The Jolly Gents Polka Band. They would like to invite their friends to attend. “SUCCESS IN COLLEGE” WORKSHOP AT LU.S.B. "Success In College”, a workshop for adults who are interested in starting or returning to college, will be offered on Saturday, August 3, 8:30 a.m. ■ 1:00 p.m. in the faculty lounge on the ground floor of Northside Hall at Indiana University at South Bend. The workshop is sponsored by lUSB’s general studies program, the academic unit which focuses on the needs of the adult college student. The topics to be covered include identifying your personal learning style, relating academics to your job or career, time management, acquiring good study skills, developing a learning plan, and managing stress. Workshop leaders are faculty, career and academic advisors, and several graduates of the general studies program. They will address all questions from the perspective of the adult learner. Each participant will have the opportunity to attend a general session, two focus groups, a network session, lunch, and a campus tour. There is no fee for the workshop but participants may take a taxdeductible contribution to the IUSB Foundation on behalf of the general studies program. TAYLOR TO SPEAK IN LAPORTE AUGUST 5 Col. Leland Taylor, of Albuquerque, N. M., will have a special message for farmers when he speaks at a meeting of Earth Keep in the LaPorte High School cafeteria, Monday evening. August 5. The program is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. and there is no admission charge. Taylor is a busy man as he assists hundreds of farmers in many states with his Total Soil Management program. He drives hundreds of thousands of miles, walks hundreds of miles in farmers’ fields to view the results of his soil testing and recommendations. For 20 years he has shown positive results and many of his followers have been with him for years. The speaker has over 1,000 slides of pictures he has taken of growing crops to illustrate what his play does to increase yields while cutting the cost of production. He will show many of these slides as part of the August 5 program. The program is also of interest to gardeners who wish to grow more produce of a better quality. Plan to attend.

GLENN MILLER ORCHESTRA TO PLAY AUGUST 7 Nostalgia will reign supreme on Wednesday, August 7, at the LaPorte County Fair when the Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform in front of the grandstand at 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. The Moonlight Serenaders quintet will be featured vocally with the group which will play many of the great hits made famous by the original Glenn Miller Orchestra. This marks the first appearance for the orchestra at the fair and is expected to be a popular grandstand attraction. Admission is free, although reserved seats are available for purchase in boxes on a first come, first served basis, at the fair office. The fair will kick off on Monday, August 5, with the ever popular Demolition Derby, at the grandstand. Tuesday evening another new event will be a Figure 8 Demo Derby, also being run in front of the grandstand. Two popular country western vocalists, Bonnie Nelson and Reba McEntire will command the grandstand stage during the run of the fair. Ms. Nelson will headline two shows on Thursday, August 8, at 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. Ms. McEntire will be featured on Saturday, August 10, at 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. PROJECT HEAD START ENROLLING STUDENTS Project Head Start of St. Joseph County, is now enrolling in the Walkerton, North Liberty area. Head Start is a pre-school program designed toserve children from low income families. The program is funded by the Federal Government and is free to those who qualify. Your child must be three (3) on or before June 30, 1985 for our three year old class. Your child must be four (4) on or before August 31, 1985 for our four year old class. BOOKMOBILE IN NORTH LIBERTY DAILY The South Bend Public Library has a bookmobile in North Liberty this summer staffed entirely by volunteers. The hours are 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and the mobile unit is air conditioned. The collection, which is changed weekly contains both adult and juvenile books including a variety of paperbacks. On a visit, near the North Liberty Middle School off Market Street, you might meet Paula Drake or Karen Platz, two of the many volunteerss trained by Debra Futa of the Francis Branch. Children will enjoy, among other items, the cartoon books of Garfield. Visit your South Bend Public Library, its branches and the North Liberty Bookmobile this summer. RESULTS FROM THE NEW PARIS SPEEDWAY Denny Nyari took the lead on lap three of the outlaw super late model feature and overcame a leaking tire to win the 30 lap feature at New Paris Speedway Saturday night. Second through Sth were Bob Blount, Denny McVey, Mike Brown and Doug Hanna. McVey was fast qualifier with Nyari winning the dash and heat wins posted by Brown and Ralph Havens. Moose Miller won the 30 lap road runner feature over Chuck Kelley, Joe Smith, Steven Emmans and Jim Hans. Larry Brimhall won the dash with heats won by Leßoy Roy, Rick Jordan and Shawn Looney. Kenny Hayes won the consi. Steve Smith won the coyote main event with Ray Ketcham and Chuck Goss second and third. The race was red-flagged when Dean Spicher’s car rolled over. Charlie Garrison won the dash and Dan Emmans, Charlie Whitman and Frankie Short took heat race wins. James Vance won the consi. Racing returns to New Paris Speedway on Saturday with Autograph Night.
