Mrs. Morrey Franks, who has been a house guesst of Mrs. Marge Morrey. of Koontz Lake, will be leaving for her home in Haines City. Florida, on Friday. Last Friday afternoon, Mrs. Morrey entertained six other ladies with two tables of bridge which provived an entertaining afternoon in addition to enjoying the bridge game and the delicious refreshments. Mrs. Franks and her host. Mrs. Morrey, are very busy trying to visit all their friends while she is here. Mr. and Mrs. Eli Ivancevich will be hosts Saturday evening for the Koontz Lake Conservation Club dinner and social hour that follows. Mr. Marvin Whitaker, of Dyer, was here Saturday to visit his mother. Mrs. Ethel Fields. Mr. Roger Whitaker was here Sunday coming from Crown Point, to spend the day with his mother, Mrs. Fields. Mr. and Mrs. Myron Mullet were at Lake Wawasee from Monday to Thursday visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Gale Schrock. Mrs. Susan Taylor, of Monroe, Michigan, and her daughter, Mrs. Tom Weigand, of Mishawaka, were Thursday luncheon guests of Mrs. Esther Kaufman. On Tuesday of this week, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Anderson, of Mishawaka, were guests of Mrs. Kaufman. Mrs. Mabel Murphy, Mrs. Esther Fry, of LaPorte; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Milner, of Plymouth; Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sheneman, of North Liberty; and Mrs. Esther Kaufman were Sunday callers of Mrs. Etta Milner of the 76 Apartments. A bridal shower was given Sunday afternoon in the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Reed, for their neice, Miss Kaye Ann Reed, of Three Oaks, Michigan, who will become the bride of Steven Wissink, of New York, on August 10, in Three Oaks, at the All Peoples Church with the reception at the Michigan City Country Gub. Kaye Ann received many beautiful gifts with 18 guests coming from Three Oaks, South Bend, North Liberty, Plymouth and Walkerton. A surprise birthday party was given for Ted Daube Sunday evening in his home, with all his brothers and their wives present and his mother, Mrs. Alma Daube, Mrs. Ruth Hayter, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; a cousin, Mr. Andy Hayter, from Govis, New Mexico who is visiting here; and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Dipert and Danny, of Kingsbury. Along with the surprise, Mr. Daube enjoyed having his guests plus the usual party refreshments. The New Carlisle Historical Days was observed last week with the surrounding Volunteer Fire Departments taking part. Several of the local firemen attend with their wives. After the parade on Saturday there is always a Firemen’s competition held and Osceola placed first among the 10 departments. This has become an annual event and proves quite interesting. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Malstaff accompanied by Mrs. Mamie Hahn and her daughter, Mrs. Regina Wells, returned home from a 10 day trip which took them to Sante Fe. New Mexico, where they attended the Beaty family reunion which was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Beaty. There were nine from Indiana present for the reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Williams flew out for the weekend and attended the reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Malstaff and Mrs. Hahn and Mrs. Wells also visited Mrs. Opal Beaty and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Freeland, of Las Cruces, and many points of interest in that vicinity. They also spent three days at Dallas. Texas, seeing many things and also enduring the 100 degree heat, but thoroughly enjoyed the vacation. On Tuesday evening of this week, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Masterman were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jo Yocum and daughter, of Bremen. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Al Fenkner and sons, of Kirkland, Washington. Mr. and Mrs. John Kiracofe and family, of Austin, Texas, are here visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ullery and other relatives. They are also visiting his relatives in Michigan. Rod Kiracofe spent two days here with the Ullerys. Mrs. Mildred McKesson spent several days last week visiting Miss Betty Clutton at Lake Shafer. They were roommates while attending college. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kunkle had a surprise wedding party for their son Richard, Jr., who was married to Mary Casteel. They received many nice gifts and appreciated everything. House guests of the Kunkies were Mr. Kunkle's niece and daughter, from Pueblo, Colorado; his brother, Donald Kunkle, from Thisomingo, Oklahoma. The other guests came from LaPaz, Knox, Kouts, Koontz Lake, Westville and Walkerton. Mrs. Florence Klingaman was a Sunday dinner guest of Mildred McKesson and Ruth Hayter. Mrs. Sandra Hayden, of Niles, Michigan; Miss Debra Hayden, of Dowagiac, Michigan; Kristie, Kevin and Karen Gearheart, of Edwardsburg, Michigan, were Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Helen Decker. On July 23, Suzanne Drews celebrated her sixth birthday at McDonald’s in Plymouth. Those present were Cassie and Stacy Walters, Alissa Fuentes, Lynna Potts, Ray Chapman, Kathy Arce, Holly Gark, Lexia and Johnny Drews, Michelle Knowlton, Doris Fuentes, Sharon Drews and Pauline Knowlton. Games were played and lunch for all the kids was served. Suzanne received many presents and everyone had a very good time.
Monday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Richey were Mrs. Carol Banwart, of Michigan City; Mrs. Lori Kidd, from South Carolina; Gary Richey and friend, from Plymouth; and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Taylor, of Walkerton. BEATY FAMILY REUNION The Beaty Family reunion was held in Santa Fe, New Mexico, from July 19th through July 21st, at the home of Howard and Ruth Beaty. Mrs. Mary Jane Beaty, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Jean Cole, and Mrs. Barbara Burkett, made the trip westward to attend the event. Enroute they made stops in St. Louis, Missouri, to enjoy the view from the top of the Arch, and in Norman, Oklahoma, to spend some time with Mrs. Beaty’s sister, Mrs. Mildred Freeman. Mrs. Burkett and Mrs. Cole made side trips to visit the Carlsbad Caverns. The Living Desert State Park, the Bandelies Cliff Dwellers, the Taos Pueblo, the Royal Gorge Bridge and rode the cog railway to the top of Pike's Peak. During the stay in Sante Fe. ail those attending the Beaty reunion visited the old downtown area, an arts and crafts show by several Indian tribes at a nearby pueblo, and a Mexican restaurant, besides having time for family visits and much good food. Others attending from Indiana were Mrs. Mamie Hahn. Mrs. Regina Wells and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Williams, of Walkerton, and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Malstaff, of LaPorte. BRADLEY-DALEY-HILL REUNION The 77th Bradley-Daley-Hill reunion will be held Sunday, August 11, 1985, at Place Park, Walkerton. Dinner will be at 12:00 noon. BRIDAL SHOWER HONORS DIANE KANE A bridal shower was given for Diane Kane, on Sunday, July 21, in the home of Mrs. Don Kane. Given by Melinda Garrett, aunt of the bride-elect, and Rhonda and Rusti Dill, sisters of the groom to be. Sixteen friends and relatives attended. Visiting and games were enjoyed after which Diane opened her many lovely and useful gifts. A beautiful decorated cake, ice cream and punch were served. Diane will become the bride of Robert Dill on September 14. BIRTH Curtis and Cindy Smith, of Huntington Beach, California, became the parents of a son, Daniel Alan, on Thursday, June 27. The maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Phil Becerril, of Costa Mesa, California, and the paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Larry Smith, of Huntington Beach, formerly of Walkerton. Paternal greatgrandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Oran Shuler, of Garden Grove, California, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Smith, all former Walkerton residents. SENIOR FELLOWSHIP TO MEET MONDAY, AUGUST 5 The Senior Fellowship Club will meet on Monday, August 5, at 12:00 noon, at Stuntz-Hochstetler Pines for their regular monthly carry-in luncheon. COMPLETE WORK FOR DEGREES AT BALL STATE Fifty-eight St. Joseph County residents completed work for degrees at Ball State University at the end of spring quarter. Degrees were conferred on 1,253 spring quarter graduates by President John E. Worthen, during the university’s 89th commencement exercises. Among the graduate are: Kathleen Kenkel, Bachelor of Science, biology, of North Liberty; Patricia Farrar. Bachelor of Science, industrial arts, Walkerton; Leslie Gore, Bachelor of Science, psychology, Walkerton; and Margaret Spence, Bachelor of Science, nursing. Walkerton. CHRISTMAS TREE GROWERS MEET The Stuntz and Hochstetler families have just recently returned from attending two Christmas Tree Growers Meetings. The first meeting Wyman and Maryin Hocshtetler attended was the Mid America Christmas Tree Growers at the Illinois Forest Products, Beardstown, Illinois. Mid American is a fairly new group, being four years old, representing 150 growers from a six state area. The Hochstetlers were active in forming the group, along with others from various states. Wyman has served as a Director of the Board since MACT was formed and is presently President of the Association. The second meeting, along with the Hochstetler family, Hayward and Ernestine Stuntz and family attended the Indiana Christmas Tree Growers Meeting, at the Huber Orchard and Winery, near Borden, Indiana.

The Indiana Association is 32 years old and has 140 growers. Ervin Stuntz was a charter member of the Association. Both he and Wyman have served as Presidents of the Association and Wyman is presently a Director on the Board. The Stuntz and Hochstetler families have been in business for 43 years and operate 200 acres for wholesale and retail choose and cut at Monterey and Walkerton. The Stuntz and Hochstetler families will be hosting the joint summer meeting of the MACT and ICTGA at their Christmas Tree Farm, near Walkerton, Friday and Saturday, June 6 and 7, 1986. The Winter meeting will be at Purdue University Friday and Saturday, January 17 and 18, 1986. At these meetings tree growers learn about planting, weed control, chemicals, insects, fungus, shearing techniques, grading of Christmas trees, sales and much more. No matter how long a grower has been in the business, they are always learning something new to grow quality trees. Many close friendships are formed at these meetings. The Indiana Association is working hard to promote the Indiana Fresh Brand Christmas Tree. Christmas Tree Growers are cor dially invited to join the Associations and attend the meetings.
