WIN COUPON BOOKS NOW ON SALE IN AREA The WIN Coupon Books have a variety of different coupons being presented by the 74 merchants in the Walkerton-Koontz Lake area and sponsored by the Walkerton Chamber of Commerce. A seven member committee chaired by Regg Williams, did the ground work on the “WIN” Coupon Book. Members are Susan Urbin, Mahlon and Patty Jacob, Betty King, Jo Hershberger and Mary Ann Christensen. For example if you use some of the coupons in the book you can save $775.00, plus many others at considerable discounts. A sampling of some of the coupons (more next week) are: Is it too hot to cook — well there are many coupons to answer this as well as do you want your car serviced at a savings; need your house painted; like a new harido; want to learn to how to fly; need some new clothing, shoes, lawnmower, furniture, chain saw. carpeting cleaned; or how about a new car or truck? This is one of the largest undertakings of the Chamber and with a special thanks to Leo Mahoney for the donation of a car and to each of those participating in the coupon book, this project would not have gotten off the ground. KOONTZ LAKE CONSERVATION COMPANY ANNUAL MEETING SUNDAY The Koontz Lake Conservation Company will hold its annual meeting on Sunday. July 7, at 2:00 p.m., at the conservation club. SECTION OF 331 TO BE CLOSED The Indiana Department of Highways will be closing a section of State Road 331 in St. Joseph County. Beginning Monday, July 1, that stretch of highway from its’ intersection with U. S. 33 to Thirteenth Street in Mishawaka will be closed to traffic. The purpose of this closure is to repair the Conrail Railroad crossing. During the closure, traffic will be detoured across Union Street. Work is expected to be completed and the road reopened by July 12,. Until then, motorists should be award of the possible inconvenience caused by this closure and make whatever changes might be necessary in their travel plans. STEVE SIROKY IS A MEMBER OF ALL-STATE BAND Steve Siroky, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Siroky, Grovertown, recently participated in the 4-H All-State Band, at Purdue University. After 18 hours of rehearsals under the direction of Bill Kissinger, the All-State Band gave two performances. Steve was one of two Starke County students selected for the 4-H All-State Band and he is a sophomore at Oregon-Davis High School. BIRTH Mike and Mary High, of Plymouth, are the proud parents of a baby boy, Andrew Michael, born on Tuesday, June 25. He weighed in at eight pounds and six ounces. Grandparents are Ray and Barb Frazier, North Liberty, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles High, Walkerton. PLAN CRUISE TRIP The Better Homes Extension Club is planning a cruise trip on the sternwheeler Princess of Mishawaka, on the “Ole St. Joe River” July 19. We will gather at the Walkerton Community Building parking lot at 5:30 p.m. and leave promptly at 6:00 p.m. If you would like to join us, please contact Mrs. Roy Freeman, Mrs. Alan Eddinger or Mrs. Leigh Roy Hahn. PARADES SET FOR SATURDAY IN WALKERTON The Walkerton 4th of July Celebration Parade will be held on Saturday, July 6. beginning at 6:00 p.m. The parade route will be from John Glenn High School on Georgia Street to Van Buren Street and to Urey Middle School parking lot. Be sure and pick out your spot on the street to view the parade. Also on Saturday is the Kiddies Parade which will begin at 11:00 a.m. from the Presbyterian Church also on Georgia Street to Van Buren Street and to Urey Middle School. Last year there were a lot of very good entries making it very hard to judge, and this year we are sure that there will be just as good if not better entries. These youngsters and their parents really go all out. Awards will be presented at 12:00 noon, at Place Park. Saturday is Festival Day in Walkerton with many activities planned. There is also the kiddies games on the west lawn of Urey Middle School beginning at 1:00 p.m.; the BMX bike race at 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church; the Dixie Walkers Square Dance Club will perform at Place Park beginning at 5:15 and at 6:00 p.m. is the parade followed around 8:00 p.m. when the awards will be presented at Place Park. Sunday is Community Day with a church service set for 10:00 a.m., at Place Park, weather permitting, otherwise at the Presybterian Church. ISSUE WARNING There will not be any alcoholic beverages or fireworks allowed at Place Park, according to the Walkerton Police Department. Fireworks are also not allowed in the corporate limits of the Town of Walkerton, PARKING RESTRICTIONS There will be no parking on Van Buren Street after 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, due to the annual 4th of July Parade which will begin at 6:00 p.m. BMX BIKE RACE The BMX Bicycle Races are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 6. behind the United Methodist Church. Walkerton. Registration is from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. The races are open to all boys and girls ages six through 16. Any two-wheeled non-motorized bicycle may be used. WANTED - TENNIS PLAYERS Tennis players, 11 • 18, are wanted for the summer tennis tournament at John Glenn. Show up time is 9:00 a.m., Monday, July 8.
