On May 16, the Urey Middle School Athletic Department handed out special awards to certain athletes who performed with distinction this school year. The first award given was the All-Sports Award. Recipients participated in at least three sports, all three years at Urey and they are Carolyn Chapman, Susan Whitaker and Todd King. The second award given was the Scholar Athlete Award. The recipients had to participate in at least two sports their eighth grade year and maintain excellent grades. This year the girl scholar athlete went to Dawn Marks and the boy went to Carl Christensen. The third award given was the Most Improved Athlete Award. The recipient had to participate in at least two sports their eighth grade year, improve in each sport throughout the season and improve throughout the year. Kim Huizenga received the girls award and Todd Clifton the boys. The final award was given out during the evening was the Outstanding Athlete Award. Recipients must participate in three sports their eighth grade year, excel! in two of the sports and be above average in the third. The athletes receiving this award were
Dawn Rhodes for the girls and Todd King for the boys. The athletic department would like to thank the John Glenn Athletic Boosters for purchasing the award plaques for these athletes. BIBLE SCHOOL INVITES YOU The North Liberty United Methodist Church invites children from the community to attend its Bible School program. This year's program runs from June 10 - 14. Sessions will be held each day from 9:00 - 11:45 a.m. To enroll your children, bring them to the church on Monday, June 10, by 9:45, to complete a short registration form. Children from pre-school through 6th grade may enroll. The children will participate in a helium balloon release with scriptures attached to the balloons, they will learn the Lord’s Prayer in sign language, they will study daily Bible lessons, and be part of a school-wide program on Friday evening.
