Released Time for Religious Instruction: Following a motion by Mr. Millar, seconded by Mr. Stull the Board voted two (Mrs. Beem and Mr. Stull) aye and four nay (Mr. Peddycord, Mr. Hostetler. Mr. Ludwig and Mr. Millar) to permit the Child Evangelism Fellowship instruction with Walkerton Elementary School students during school time. Therefore, the motion failed. The superintendent had recommended that the Board not permit such instruction. C. Conference Requests: Following a motion by Mr. Stull, seconded by Mr. Ludwig, the Board voted unanimously to allow the following conference attendance requests: John Glenn High School — James Perry to serve on a North Central Association evaluation team at Adams Central High School, November 27-30, 1984. Mileage expense is to be paid. Walkerton Elementary School — Carol Hockman to attend Computers and Learning in Chicago on October 27, 1984. Expenses are to be covered by a computer grant. Marilyn Lightfoot to attend the Indiana Association of Elementary School Principals State Conference at Indianapolis on October 7, 1984,

Head Cooks — Evelyn Houser and Marolyn Millar to attend the Level I Workshop on Food and Nutrition at Fort Wayne on October 6, 1984. Mileage and registration expenses are to be paid. D. Appointments: Following a motion by Mr. Stull, seconded by Mrs. Beem, the Board voted five aye to one nay (Mr. Hostetler) to appoint Linda Parker as sponsor of the John Glenn High School National Honor Society. Following a motion by Mr. Millar, seconded by Mr. Ludwig, the Board voted unanimously to make the following appointments: John Glenn High School — Paul Hernandez, assistant girls basketball coach; Urey Middle School — Sue Olund, student council; Jeff Matanich, track coach for Urey Middle School and North Liberty Middle School combined; Walkerton Elementary School — Carolyn Ort, sth and 6th cheer-
leader sponsor. E. Reports: 1. Financial Statement, August, 1984, the superintendent noted that there were usual appropriation balances at this time, but that a bookkeeping error had prevented completion of the statement. The correction will be made and the full report submitted at the next meeting. 2. ADM, Enrollment — The superintendent noted that official enrollment for 1984-85 is 1,624 students as compared to 1,645 in 1983-84. This represents a drop of 1.3%. The Board asked the superintendent to research attendance figures over the past three to four years and to report at a later date on enrollment trends. 3. Driver Education Costs — The superintendent noted that costs in 1984 totaled $14,356.70 with student tuition of $6,600. The deficit of $7,756.70 for the noncredit program will be reviewed prior to establishing tuition for 1985. 4. New Superintendents Workshop — The superintendent reported that attendance at the workshop on September 12 and 13, 1984, was very informative. He thanked the Board for their support of this valuable in-service. F. Public Hearing — Request for additional appropriation from Cumulative Building Fund: Board president Peddycord asked the Board members for any questions regarding the proposed use of the additional appropriation. He clarified that the Cumulative Building Fund monies were to be used to pay for the Walkerton Elementary reroofing and John Glenn High School/Walkerton Elementary School air conditioning Project 12199 as approved previously. There were no further inquiries from those observers present at the meeting. Following a motion by Mr. Hostetler, seconded by Mr. Ludwig, the Board voted unanimously to adopt a resolution to appropriate the following: Cumulative Building Fund, Account 25420, $125,000.00; Cumulative Building Fund, Account 25430, $27,000.00. G. Congratulations: The superintendent noted that the John Glenn High School Cross Country team had placed first at the New Prairie Invitational in the Class A Division. The team is having another outstanding year under the direction of coach Larry Rans. H. Corporation Map: Board president Peddycord related that the new map has been completed by Anthony Molnar. Mr. Peddycord asked Mr. Stull to check on expenses to make additional copies for the schools and smaller copies of the map. It was suggested by Mr. Stull that some extra-curricular or school support group may be able to sell small copies as a fund raiser. There being no further business to come before the Board, following a motion by Mr. Stull, seconded by Mr. Millar, the Board voted unanimously to adjourn at 9:30 p.m. The Board will meet in executive session on October 4, 1984, at 7:30 p.m. at Walkerton Elementary School for the purpose of discussing individuals over which the Board has jurisdiction.
