WALKERTON TOWN BOARD MINUTES A special meeting was held following an executive session on September 17. 1984 with the following members present: E. Clifford Ward. Margaret Gaddis, Greg Williams and Edward Bracich. Kathryn Chrapliwy and James Clevenger were also present. The meeting was held concerning the electric rates being so high in Walkerton and what to do about them. Greg Williams, Clifford Ward, Margaret Gaddis and Marvin Williams have attended several meetings in Winamac along with seven other towns representatives, all of whom have been purchasing electricity wholesale from NIPSCO. The meetings in Winamac have been to negotiate and or the possibility of withdrawing from NIPSCO. All seven towns have a contract with NIPSCO that expires around October 1. 1987. The attorneys representing the towns are encouraging the towns to write a letter of termination of the contract. According to the contract a letter of termination must be written three years prior to the date of termination. The towns have been looking for alternatives and at the present time they have four alternatives who are willing to sell them power right now.

Greg Williams made a motion to sign the resolution that would authorize the Town of Walkerton to write a letter of termination to NIPSCO. Margaret Gaddis seconded the motion. Mr. Bracich was not in favor of the resolution because he said we did not have a full board present to vote and he didn’t have enough information about the subject. Mr. Williams said he had a full notebook on the matter that has been m the clerk s office since he has been attending all the meetings and that three board members, who have been attending all those meetings feel that terminating the contract can only be for the betterment of the residents in Walkerton who are paying such high electric bills at the present time. The resolution was then read: TOWN OF WALKERTON INDIANA RESOLUTION OF THE WALKERTON TOWN BOARD WHEREAS. THE TOWN OF WALKERTON has an existing Agreement to Supply Electric Service for Resale with NIPSCO for full requirements electric service; and, WHEREAS.
