FALL FESTIVAL PLANNED FOR OCTOBER 19 & 20 The Walkerton Chamber of Commerce is planning a Fall Festival for Friday and Saturday, October 19 and 20. This will be the first fall festival and it is hoped to make this an annual affair Anyone in terested in joining m the festivi ties is welcome An entry blank is elsewhere in this issue for your convenience. There will be booth space avail able for antiques, arts, crafts, flea market, vegetables and other foods Ixxal residents, organizations and businesses are encourag ed to participate Many other activities are in the planning stages for young and old alike Mark the dates on your calendar because this promises to be a fine festival ADULT BASK EDUCATION RESUMES CLASSES Adult Basic Education resumes classes at the North l iberty (hurch of the Brethren. The free classes provide mdividualli/ed instruction in reading and phonics, grammer and spelling, and math.
Students must be at least 18 years old and out of school. There is no upper age limit. The classes will be limited to 15 students, but everyone in the community is welcome There is no charge for the classes, and all books and materials are provided by the program AH each student must bring is the desire to learn and the willingness to work on improving his or her skills. Since the instruction is individualized, students may enter the* program at any time and leave I when they have completed their educational goals. The class will meet at the North Liberty ( hurch of the Brethren at the corner of Market and Lafayette Streets, from 8:30 II W a m.. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fri days The classes are funded by a Job Training Partnership Act grant through the Indiana Department of Public Instruction Ihe project is a cooperative effort of the John Glenn School Corporation and the St Joseph County Job framing Program for more information about the classes, interested persons may call Connie Knowlton, 586 1086 GLENN DEFEATS (LAY IN VOLLEYBALL I he Glenn Girls volleyball team defeated South Bend ( lay on Thursday, August 30 at ( lay High School After dropping the first game I I H, the l.ady Fakons came back with 15-6 and IS 13 wins for the victory. Julie Knowlton was the most accurate server with 18 out of 18 while Lisa Parker had 13 out of 13 Angie McKesson and Jennifer Price had the most kills with 8 each Angie Albertsen had 19 passes and Jennifer Price a 2.4 passing rating Lisa Parker had 33 sets. The Glenn B Team was also vic torious by scores of 12-15, 15-9 and 15-9 Most accurate server was Shavonda Clemnns with 18 out of 19, Tammy Osborn had 4 kills, Mindy Salyer the most passes and Ingrid Boise the best passing average. Tammy Osborn had 25 sets Both teams were 1-0 after this, their opening match. Exercise Classes To Begin Locally September 17th The Health and Lifestyle ( enter of Memorial Hospital announces the autumn schedule of exercise classes will begin Monday, September 17, at 7:00 p.m., in the North Liberty school gym and on Wednesday. September 19, at 7 00 p.m. in the Walkerton Elementary school gym. Sue Klinedinst, instructor, will lead the class in "Easy Does It Fitness". This one-hour class is a slow pace, exercise-to music ses sion that is designed for those who have not exercised for some time Emphasizing primarily flexibility and conditioning exercises, this class will assist women in regaining muscle tone, strength and a higher energy level. Relaxation and breathing techniques that are in corporated in the class help reduce stress and tension. This is a fun workout guaranteed to create a feeling of well being. These classes have no age re strictions and since no dance rou tine is taught one can join on any Monday or Wednesday night. It is however recomended, that, if possible. students begin the first week of September 17 so as not to miss specific instruction of certain exer cises. Participants are reminded to wear lose fitting clothes and bring a pad or blanket for floor exercises.
